For over a decade — and ten years as CEO — Mimi Fox Melton has led Code2040 with clarity, care, and conviction. Through rapid shifts in tech, a global pandemic, and increasing attacks on equity work, she helped guide this organization with a steady commitment to justice and to the people at the center of it all.

Reflecting on her time, Mimi shares:
“I’ve spent ten years at code2040, (one quarter of my life!) which has been both wildly challenging and fulfilling, and I’ll be grateful forever to the people who taught me, guided me, supported me, and pushed me during my time here.

More than that, I’m overwhelmed thinking about the students I’ve worked with whose resilience and vision for a just and equitable technological future motivated our work.”

Thank you, Mimi, for your years of leadership — and for guiding Code2040 through moments of uncertainty with courage and care.

For more than a decade, Code2040 has been made possible by the people who believed in its mission and worked every day to bring it to life. We’re celebrating just a few of the individuals whose contributions helped shape this legacy!

Today we’re spotlighting Jardana Peacock (they/them) who serves as Senior Director of Development & Communications Lead.

For more than 20 years, Jardana has helped move resources where they matter — supporting communities, liberatory movements, and the people doing the work on the ground. At Code2040, they brought that same commitment to dignity, care, and collective possibility.

Reflecting on their time here, Jardana shares: “Code2040 has been one of the most nourishing places I have ever worked. I have learned so much about how to hold each other in dignity, care and liberatory leadership in the world and workplace.”

Jardana’s work is a reminder that movement-building isn’t only about vision — it’s also about resourcing that vision so it can grow.

As we wind down operations here at Code2040, we’re continuing to honor the people behind the scenes that made Code2040 what it is. Today, we’re uplifting Justin Lyons, Vice President of Operations & Finance.

For the past four years, Justin has led across Operations, IT, People, Finance, and Board relations — helping ensure Code2040 could do what it does best. A builder at his core, he’s spent his career strengthening teams and systems so organizations can thrive.

Reflecting on his time at Code2040, Justin shares: “In the face of a global pandemic, devastating divestment in DEI and rapid political change, I’ve been consistently moved by our students’ resilience, courage and persistence during my time at Code2040. The contagious power of our community has repeatedly inspired me through the ups and downs of this journey. I will always remember: We take care of us!”

Justin is now seeking senior operations roles where he can continue building strong, people-centered organizations!

Although the work of fighting for racial justice in tech has (and must!) change with the times, it has always been about what happens when we’re in a room together — sharing ideas, building with each other, and, as Code2040 fellow Jenny Martinez says, continuing to innovate.

As we look back, we’re thinking about everything that came out of spaces like this: relationships, strategies, and knowledge that people will carry into their work, their communities, and the skills to shape the future of not only this industry, but the world around us.

That doesn’t disappear. It moves with us and continues on in the lives and careers in everyone that this work touched.

For over a decade, Code2040 has been powered by people — visionary leaders, builders, and changemakers whose labor helped shape what was possible. As we wind down, we’re spotlighting just a few of the people who helped carry that work forward. ❤️

For this staff spotlight, we’re honoring Qy’Darrius (Q) McEachern (he/him), Senior Program Manager at Code2040.

For years, Q has helped steward one of Code2040’s most transformative spaces: the Fellows Program. Through strategic leadership, liberatory design, and deep operational care, he has overseen curriculum, cohort management, and program ex*****on to help ensure Fellows had the tools, support, and experience they needed to grow as the next generation of tech equity leaders.

With more than six years of experience building transformative, equity-centered programs, Q brought both strategy and heart to the work — helping connect vision to ex*****on while centering the people most impacted.

Now, Q is stepping even more intentionally into the work he’s been doing for years as the CEO of Interconnected, a learning and development company helping organizations connect the dots between people, strategy, and ex*****on.

Swipe to celebrate Q’s impact, learn more about his next chapter, and find ways to connect!

At Summer Summit ‘25, we weren’t just gathering — we were building. Building pathways, building memory, building proof that another future in tech is possible when we choose each other.

As we reflect on this chapter, we’re thinking about the lasting impact of this community: the knowledge shared, the relationships forged, the strategies tested, and the resources created so future generations won’t have to start from scratch or "reinvent the wheel."

Even as Code2040 sunsets, what was built here does not disappear. It lives on in the archives, the lessons, the frameworks, and the people who will carry this work forward in new rooms, new organizations, and new movements.

This work was never just about one moment — it was always about passing something powerful on for the advocates and activists who will come behind us.

For over a decade, Code2040 has been powered by people, collective imagination, shared labor, and a deep belief in our potential for a just technological future. So many hands have helped build and sustain this work. Over the next few weeks we’ll introduce you to some of the people who made Code2040 the powerful force it has been, starting with Jessica Davis Rash, Senior People & Culture Manager at Code2040.

Jessica has spent nearly four years helping nurture the people, systems, and culture that made Code2040 more than an organization — a space where hope, leadership, and transformation could grow. For over a decade, she has built human-centered systems that meet people at the intersection of vulnerability and play, creating meaningful experiences that bring communities together.

At Code2040, Jessica helped cultivate spaces where emerging Black and Latinx technologists could feel seen, supported, and inspired to lead. Her work reminds us that movement-building isn’t just about strategy — it’s also about people, care, and the systems that help us thrive.

As Jessica puts it: “My time at Code2040 has shown me that there is in fact so much hope. There are reasons to stay inspired and hopeful because the next generation of early tech leaders are committed to doing the work and making real change.”

Jessica is now available for roles in people & culture, leadership development, and higher education, as well as coaching and consulting in those areas!

It’s hard to imagine this work without Code2040, and still we know the fight doesn’t stop here.

As we move through this season of transition, we’re holding deep gratitude for the organizations continuing to show up, organize, and build toward a just future for all of our communities. From Detroit and beyond, these are just a few of the many groups carrying the torch—fighting for racial justice, dignity, and a future where our communities have a say in how technology shapes our lives.

Orgs: BEAM, Media Justice, Detroit Justice Center, Allied Media Project, Lee Street, and Media Justice

Code2040 may be gone, but our community perseveres and they’ll continue to dream and build toward a just technological future.

Last year at Summer Summit '25, we gathered in a room full of brilliance, care, and possibility—fellows, alumni, staff, and community building. You can feel it in the laughter, the side conversations, the quiet affirmations, the joy that lives even in uncertain times.

As we move through this season of transition, we’re holding tight to what was created here: connection, imagination, and a shared commitment to shaping a more just tech future.

This is what Code2040 has always been about. And that doesn’t end here.
