UPDATE: Ross Valley School District confirmed it has identified students who were responsible for the antisemitic graffiti found at Brookside Elementary over the weekend.

The graffiti depicted a Star of David “versus” a sw****ka, with a “W” above the sw****ka indicating a win. Alongside the symbols was “I hate JECW,” an apparent misspelling of “Jews.”

JCRC thanks Ross Valley School District and Central Marin Police for their swift response to this disturbing incident.

Three years ago today, Hamas carried out the deadliest attack against the Jewish people since the Holocaust — murdering approximately 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages.

Today, we remember the innocent lives stolen on October 7, the families forever changed, and all those who have endured unimaginable pain in the years since.

May the memories of those we lost be a blessing.

On this solemn day for Jewish people worldwide, we thank East Palo Alto Mayor Webster Lincoln for bearing witness to the atrocities of October 7 and standing with our community.

His solidarity is especially meaningful in Silicon Valley, home to a significant Israeli population, and reflects his commitment to lasting peace both at home and abroad.

Three years later, we still carry the grief of October 7: the 1,200 people killed, the 251 taken hostage, the thousands injured, and the countless survivors and families whose lives were forever changed by the Hamas terror attacks. That day left an indelible mark on Israel and the Jewish people, and its pain remains with us. 💙

We remember the young people dancing at the Nova Music Festival, the families living peacefully on kibbutzim, and the parents, children, grandparents, and friends murdered in their homes. We remember those who gave their lives trying to save others, the hostages who endured unimaginable suffering, and those who never returned home alive.

Here in the Bay Area, October 7 is deeply personal. Many in our community had relatives or friends in Israel that day. Some lost loved ones. In the years since, we have grieved together, held one another up, and found the strength to keep showing up for Jewish life and for each other.

Today, JCRC joins our community in mourning and remembrance. May the memories of those we lost be a blessing. May their families know that they are not alone, and that we will never forget.

Such a powerful sight: dozens of San Anselmo families and community members showing up in solidarity with the Jewish community after antisemitic graffiti, including sw****kas, was found at Brookside Elementary School over the weekend. At yesterday morning’s rally, elementary students from all backgrounds waved signs and stood alongside Jewish families in support.

Antisemitic graffiti has become all too common across the Bay Area. JCRC condemns this incident and thanks everyone who organized and showed up yesterday.

Central Marin Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime. Anyone with information should contact Central Marin Police at (415) 927-5150.
