NORTH PACIFIC FISHERIES REFORM:
Alaska's Constitution (Article VIII) establishes that the state's fish and wildlife resources are held in public trust and must be managed for the maximum benefit of Alaskans. The North Pacific fisheries represent the largest wild capture fisheries in the United States, and they are failing rural Alaska, subsistence users, Alaskan sport fishermen, and the communities that have depended on them for generations.
As Governor, I will be committed to restoring management integrity to Alaska's North Pacific fisheries through every tool available to the executive branch under Alaska law. The Governor cannot introduce legislation, but holds three direct instruments of reform:
