Pure Land Practice & Meditation Workshop

You can relax and sit in a chair, or bring a pillow

Join us for an introduction to two practices many of our community turn to for calm and steadiness: the Pure Land practice and Chan meditation. Both work by helping the mind settle and focus, bringing a lasting sense of peace that carries well beyond the practice itself. We'll also touch on what happens after death and other important topics.

No experience needed, everyone is welcome.

Moderate Heat Risk

High temperatures this week are expected to bring about moderate heat health risk. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Heat Advisory from 10:00 AM Wednesday 9/09 to 10:00 PM Thursday 9/10. There is also a moderate level of Heat Risk beginning today, Tuesday 9/08.

Wednesday is expected to be the warmest day of the trend for San Francisco, with a high of 88°.

How can we stay safe?

Prepare for the heat by pulling the shades down during the day and keeping the windows open at night.
Stay hydrated by drinking water. Avoid drinking alcohol and sugared drinks.
Never leave children or pets alone in closed vehicles.
If outdoors, stay in shaded areas. Wear light-colored, lightweight clothing, and a hat.
Practice Window Safety to protect toddlers and small children from falls.
Help your community stay safe

Forward this message to community residents who may be more susceptible to the health dangers of heat.
If possible, conduct in-person wellness checks or phone calls to vulnerable constituents.
What are the signs of over exposure to heat?

Heat stroke symptoms may include:

High (>103°F) body temperature
Difficulty breathing
Red/hot/dry skin with no sweating
Rapid pulse
Throbbing headache
Dizziness
Nausea
Mental confusion
Delirium
Hallucinations
Chills
Unconsciousness

Call 9-1-1 immediately if you or someone you know is having a medical emergency or showing signs of a heat stroke.
