Everybody needs a safety whistle in case of danger or being trapped after an earthquake. Castro Patrol continues to distribute free whistles with 11 merchants on the 500 block of Castro and 19th Streets featuring counter-top displays. Feel free to grab one along with the accompanying instruction flyer. We will expand to more of the business district in September after some needed vacations.

The former Executive Director of SF-SAFE (Castro Patrol's fiscal sponsor from 2006 through 2013) was arrested in connection with at least $700,000 in missing funds. The resulting collapse of SF-SAFE forced Castro Patrol to form a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation in order to continue the work of our unpaid volunteers to help improve safety in the Castro. We are still needing financial help via donations through the GoFundMe link in the B.A.R. article.

Castro Community on Patrol is still seeking public financial support after allegedly being stuck with over $10,000 in unpaid bills by its nonprofit sponsor — the disgraced former head of which was indicted July 30 on 34 felony counts.

As PRIDE month and festivities is upon us, we wanted to encourage you to consider attending the following training class led by our Ken Craig, who is also a Grand Master Martial Artist and Chief of Community Patrol Service.

Knowing what to do and decisively acting when "the worst occurs" is vital, and as we all attend PRIDE sporting and celebration gatherings, this information is all the more important.
