Sometimes we think about how bugs are just enjoying the wildflowers while an entire movement of people are working to make sure spaces like this stick around. šŸŒøšŸ

School may be out for summer, but millions of kids still don't have a safe, welcoming place to play close to home.

Too often, schoolyards sit empty behind locked gates or consist of little more than hot asphalt with no shade, trees, or places to explore. Transforming these spaces into green community schoolyards can create lasting benefits for students, families, and entire neighborhoods.

The Revitalizing America's Schoolyards Act could help bring more nature-filled schoolyards to communities across the country.

🄾 Happy National Trails Day!

Today we're celebrating the power of trails to connect people with the outdoors—and it's taking us to the Penn Haven project in the Poconos.

In the rural town of Weatherly, Pennsylvania, TPL helped protect more than 1,100 acres for a future 5-mile trail connection that will link the borough to the beloved D&L Trail, creating new opportunities for hiking, biking, and local economic growth. At the same time, restoration efforts are improving nearby streams and helping wild trout return to waterways impacted by historic mining.

From stronger trail networks to healthier waterways, this project shows what's possible when communities invest in the outdoors.

It's a milestone: TPL just reached our 5,000th land protection effort with Cheyenne Mountain State Park in Colorado!

Cheyenne Mountain is everything we love about Colorado: fresh air, great trails, and mountain views that never get old. When more than 500 acres next to the park were at risk of development, Trust for Public Land and our partners stepped in to protect the land and add it to the park, keeping these landscapes natural and open for generations to come.

What if one of the best solutions for expanding access to parks has been hiding in plain sight?

In a new Outside Magazine story, Trust for Public Land's community schoolyards program shows the impact of transforming schoolyards into vibrant spaces for play, learning, and community connection.

By working directly with students, educators, and neighbors, TPL helps create greener, more welcoming places that serve schools during the day and communities after hours.

It's a simple idea with a big impact: more outdoor space, more opportunities to connect, and more neighborhoods with access to places to gather and play.

Our second community schoolyards project in Ohio is underway! šŸ™Œ

Jennings Community Learning Center in Akron will be transformed from asphalt to awesome thanks to input from students, administrators, and residents.

Community schoolyards help promote a healthy lifestyle, reduce educational disparities, and improve educational outcomes—and we can’t wait for students and residents alike to enjoy the incredible benefits these green spaces can provide.

If you had just ONE day to identify as many species of birds as you could—how many do you think you'd find?

Four of our incredible TPL staff members recently went to Prime Hook Wildlife Refuge in Delaware to see for themselves. 🐦
