Do you remember Día de los Mu***os of years past here in the Mission District? Will you be honoring loved ones this year?

Honor our traditions. Honor our ancestors.

Meet Louie Gutierrez of La Reyna Bakery, one of the longtime organizers behind San Francisco’s Día de los Mu***os Procession.

We sat down with Louie to reflect on the history, meaning, and importance of keeping this beautiful tradition alive in the Mission District. It requires showing up, and for many of us, coming back home.

Join us in supporting el Comité del Rescate Cultural and the elders who have carried this tradition forward for generations.

Thank you Stay Alive And Free for having members of the NC leadership on last night for a deep and beautiful conversation on Latino identity, history, culture as we celebrate Latino Heritage Month. Glad we could be joined by so many of our familia from the Mission District including powerful elders. A special shout out to sister Joanna Bermudez-Hernandez with Freedom Braiders

The power of organizing in action.

For years, Nuestra Causa has organized alongside street vendors, building collective power, developing leadership, and fighting together for a city where the people most impacted by policy have the power to shape it.

Through that work, vendors came together through the FoodVendorsCouncil organizing themselves, developing their own leadership, and carrying their collective voice from the streets into the halls of power.

Supervisor Jackie Fielder has been a strong ally since the early years of this street vendor movement and continues to stand alongside our community. Today, with her introduction of MEHKO, a pathway for home-based food businesses, we move another step closer toward economic opportunity and a system shaped by the people who have too often been excluded from it.

This is what organizing looks like. Community organizations, elected leaders, and most importantly, impacted people working together to turn lived experience into collective action and collective action into policy.

Because lasting change isn’t something we deliver to our communities.

It’s something we build together.

The power has always rested with an organized people.

Our Brotherhood Groups are a space for men to come together, speak honestly, be real, and push one another to grow.

We believe being a strong man isn’t just about what you can carry. It’s about how you show up. How you lead. How you respond to adversity. How you take responsibility for yourself, your family, and your community.

Rooted in teachings passed down by our elders and through the Compadres Network, we’re building a brotherhood centered on accountability, discipline, healing, and growth.

Not just talking about becoming better men. Doing the work to be them.
