What if giving your skills away is actually part of how you refill?

We talk a lot about burnout, capacity, bandwidth. But there's something that happens when you step away from the noise and put your expertise to work alongside people doing critical work in your own backyard — something that looks a lot less like depletion and more like coming home to yourself.

Feeling connected to community, to something tangible and close, is one of the things that grounds us when everything else feels uncertain. Skills-based volunteering gives you that. Not in the abstract. In a room, with real people, on a real problem, where you can actually see the difference your knowledge makes.

We're building our SF and NYC cohorts now — organizations serving immigrant and refugee communities who are ready to put your skills to work.

With deep gratitude for her enduring impact, we share that Heather Ramsey, WAKE’s co-founder, has stepped down from our Advisory Board.

Heather was there at the very beginning of WAKE, co-creating a vision of what becomes possible when women lead change in their communities, share knowledge and expertise, and become allies and advocates for one another. She helped build not just the organization, but its flagship program Tech2Empower®️, its global network across 11 countries, and through her leadership and vision shaped the Advisory Board into the dynamic, strategic body that it is today.

Since 2021, Heather has served as Advisory Board Chair and Co-Chair, bringing her wisdom and commitment to every advisor and nonprofit leader she encountered along the way. Few people have the opportunity to grow something from an idea into a lasting institution. Heather has done exactly that.

Her imprint on the WAKE community will be felt for years to come, and we are deeply grateful for everything she has given to this organization and to the women whose lives she has helped transform.

We wish her every success and happiness in all that lies ahead.
Heidi

Over the weekend, the world observed World Refugee Day.

It is a day to pause and recognize the people who have been forced from their homes by conflict, violence, and persecution. As of the end of 2025, more than 117 million people were forcibly displaced worldwide, including 41.6 million refugees. Nearly four in ten are children.

At WAKE, this work is close to our hearts. We have partnered with organizations across the globe that walk alongside refugees as they rebuild their lives and find community.

Our Tech2Empower® for Ukraine program brings together NGOs supporting displaced Ukrainians, and our upcoming USA programs in NYC and SF this fall are dedicated to immigrant and refugee action.

Refugees are our neighbors. Today and every day, they deserve our support.
