| The international Hong Kong business community is robust and thriving, and this event was a terrific reminder of that!

The Hong Kong Business Association of Northern California was pleased to be represented at the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association's National Conference and Americas Regional Caucus in Edmonton earlier this month.

The conference brought together business leaders, government representatives, and professionals from across North America to explore Hong Kong’s evolving role as a global business hub and gateway to Asia.

A highlight of the conference was the keynote presentation by Margaret Wong, Chair of both HKBANC and the Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide, who spoke on Hong Kong as a “super-connector” linking international businesses, capital, and opportunities across the region.

The program also featured engaging discussions on:
• Hong Kong’s unique advantages in finance, logistics, and legal infrastructure
• Real-world business experiences scaling through Hong Kong
• Building resilient business strategies amid global uncertainty

We were especially proud that two of the four U.S. chapter representatives in attendance were from HKBANC: in addition to our Chair Margaret Wong, Brian Rowbotham, HKBANC former Chair and current Executive Committee Member, participated as Co-President of the National U.S. Hong Kong Business Association (NUSHKBA).

The conversations throughout the conference reinforced a consistent message: Hong Kong continues to play a uniquely important role in connecting global businesses with Asia—and there remains no other place quite like it in the world.

This year’s theme, “Hong Kong’s Got Talent: Celebrating Our Global Community,” highlighted the creativity, resilience, and global impact of the Hong Kong community across industries and generations.

HKBANC Chair Margaret Wong reflected on the organization’s mission since 1984 — to serve as a bridge connecting Hong Kong and Northern California through business, cultural, and academic exchange. She emphasized that this year’s theme is a tribute to the extraordinary talent within our community, recognizing individuals whose achievements embody innovation, leadership, and global influence.

We were proud to honor five distinguished leaders: Dr. Ken Fong, Yue-Sai Kan, Dominic Ng, Peter Wong, and Chef Martin Yan — each of whom has made remarkable contributions in their respective fields while giving back meaningfully to the community.

The evening featured a vibrant cocktail reception, live entertainment, and a memorable program emceed by Emmy Award-winning journalist Dion Lim. More importantly, it served as a meaningful reminder of HKBANC’s enduring role in strengthening connections between Hong Kong and Northern California, while inspiring the next generation to lead and contribute.

The HKBANC Board sincerely appreciates the unwavering support of all our sponsors, guests, community partners, and volunteers who made this evening possible. We look forward to continuing to build bridges, foster collaboration, and create lasting impact together.

Special thanks to KTSF Television for the wonderful video recap!

Highlights

The 42nd Anniversary Gala of the Hong Kong Business Association of Northern California was not only a celebration of excellence and community but also a meaningful opportunity to raise funds in support of our year-round programs.

A highlight of the evening was announcing the winners of our Grand Prize, generously donated by Cathay Pacific: two roundtrip Business Class tickets from San Francisco to Hong Kong. This generous contribution elevated the excitement of the evening while supporting a cause that strengthens our global community.

In much the same way that HKBANC strives to connect the Bay Area and Hong Kong through business, education, and cultural ties, Cathay Pacific plays a vital role in bridging these two dynamic regions—bringing people, opportunities, and ideas closer together.

Congratulations again to all our winners, and sincere thanks to our prize donors for their generosity and support of HKBANC's mission to serve as a bridge between Hong Kong and Northern California.
