Preliminary analysis indicates that a combination of environmental and biological factors is contributing to this catastrophic event, which has seen four large birthing herds of the critically endangered Saiga antelope wiped out since mid-May this year. Primarily mothers and calves are among the carcasses; not a single animal has survived in the affected herds.

Thank you for sharing Charles Eisenstein: "I've just written a review of the film Aluna that Tikkun Magazine published today. The message of the film is much deeper than to merely warn us about ecocide. The Kogi invite us into a radically different way of seeing ourselves and the world -- the reinvestment of nature with agency, intelligence, sacredness, and beingness. Without this change, we will not deviate from our world-destroying trajectory. This essay goes deep into issues of colonialism, the exoticized other, cognitive imperialism, and so on... I hope you don't find it over-intellectual. The key to understanding this film: it is NOT a documentary."

The Kogi say we are close to the dying of the world. Their faces, writ with quiet courage, sober indignation, and a long, patient wisdom, defy easy dismissal.
