In August 2024, Spark launched Ready, Set, Read! — a bold, 3-year, $5 million campaign to transform literacy instruction across every SFUSD school. In just one year:

✅ 1,484 elementary teachers trained

✅ 20,000+ students impacted district-wide

✅ 100% of schools supported by an instructional coach

✅ 90% of teachers rated their training "good" or "excellent"

Literacy is a gateway to opportunity. Thank you for helping open that door for every San Francisco student.

At Our City, Our Schools, over 53 student performers brought energy, creativity, and joy to the evening, reminding all of us what’s at stake.

Their performances weren’t just a highlight—they were a reflection of the talent, confidence, and brilliance that exists across SFUSD classrooms every day.

Our students are not just the future of San Francisco.

They are our present—and they are ready!

Performers included:

Commodore Sloat ES Student Choir
Lowell Chamber Choir
Mariachi Los Osos from Mission HS
George Washington HS Dancers
Lowell Jazz Band

Real change in education doesn’t happen all at once.

It happens teacher by teacher, student by student.

This year, SFUSD launched a districtwide effort to strengthen math instruction—an ambitious and necessary investment in teaching and learning.

At Our City, Our Schools, we had the opportunity to step inside that work through the classroom of Mr. Ayo at Visitation Valley Middle School.

What stood out wasn’t just the strategy—it was the practice.

Strong instruction, deep engagement, and the daily work of helping students build confidence and mastery in math.

This is what system transformation looks like in real time.

And it’s why investing in educators is one of the most powerful ways to invest in students, and invest in San Francisco.

What a night for San Francisco's public schools! ❤️

At Our City, Our Schools, educators, civic leaders, philanthropists, and community members came together to celebrate over a decade of impact — and we're proud to share that we surpassed last year's fundraising record.

We're grateful to the civic leaders who showed up in support, including Mayor Daniel Lurie, Board of Education President Phil Kim, Vice President Jaime Huling, Commissioners Alida Fisher, Lisa Weissman-Ward, and Parag Gupta, and Supervisors Stephen Sherrill, Danny Sauter, and Chyanne Chen.

Thank you to our partners and champions: Becca Prowda, Rev. Amos Brown, Diana Gray, Dr. Vince Matthews, Virginia Marshall, Landon Dickey, Laura Moran, Kunal Modi, Sherrice Dorsey, and Michael Lambert.

And deep gratitude to our philanthropic partners and sponsors: Salesforce Foundation, Levi Strauss Foundation, Stupski Foundation, Kodama Foundation, Golden State Community Foundation, Give Forward Foundation, and Crankstart Foundation.

And last but not least, much gratitude to our SFUSD educators and leaders: Superintendent Dr. Maria Su, Laticia Erving, Marcus Blacksher Jr., Judson Steele, Mauricha Robinson, Bobby Pope, Glenn Bell, Daniel Adejeji, Renée Marcy, Ed.D., Devin Krugman, Tony Payne, Jennifer Steiner, Ed.D., Davina Goldwasser, Christie Herrera.

Thank you to the Spark Board and Leadership Council, and to every member of this community who shows up — year after year — for San Francisco's students and schools.

❤️ Here’s ABC7 covering Spark's work with an anonymous donor, giving $1.6 million so that 6,000 SFUSD teachers and paraeducators each receive a $250 gift card. This is the recognition they deserve! 👏 Cameron Bopp interviewed teachers and parents on the street in SF for their reaction.

Thanks to a generous anonymous donor, about 6,000 teachers and paraeducators in the San Francisco Unified School District are each receiving $250 gift cards.

To every SFUSD teacher and paraeducator: someone sees you. ❤️

Today, nearly 6,000 SF educators are receiving a $250 gift card — no strings, no catch — from an anonymous San Francisco donor who just wanted to say thank you.

"Hopefully they will feel seen and appreciated. That's my goal here."

We at Spark SF Public Schools were honored to help make this happen. And to all the educators opening that email today: please click the link. We promise it’s real. 😊
