As ballots have started to hit mailboxes, we're sharing REP-SF's positions on the local ballot measures for the June 2 Election! We’re voting NO on Prop C and YES on Prop D to make corporations pay their fair share!

Vote NO on Prop C to Reject Decreases to Business Taxes.
Prop C is Supported & Funded by Billionaires & Tech CEOs!
This proposition is on the ballot to be a poison pill for Prop D, the Overpaid CEO Tax. If Prop C passes, we could LOSE $30–40 million per year!

Vote YES on Prop D to Increase Business Taxes.
Prop D Makes Large Corporations Pay Their Fair Share. Prop D Does NOT Increase Taxes for Small Businesses.
If this proposition passes, we could RAISE $250–300 million per year!

Companies benefiting most from San Francisco’s economy should contribute more to the public good, supporting services and housing investments that make the city more livable for everyone. For renters, it is a matter of fairness: When inequality drives displacement and instability, asking the wealthiest corporate leaders to pay more is essential to invest in the communities their businesses rely on.

BIG BUSINESSES SHOULD PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE! VOTE NO ON C AND YES ON D.

In a new blog post, REP-SF member Priya Prabhakar, organizer at [people. power. media], shares how she and PPM co-founder Joseph Smooke recently joined the Reading Club at 465 Collective – part of Thursdays are for Qu**rs and Comrades, a recurring series that co-creates space for trans, nonbinary, and q***r communities, creativity, and organizing in San Francisco. Priya and Joseph brought the Key Findings of People Power Media’s recent report, "Who Is San Francisco Building For?" and engaged in a discussion around the key question: "Why is it so hard to build affordable housing?"

Thank you to the 465 Collective for giving us the space and time to co-learn!

48 Hills recently published two articles highlighting a new study by four leading urban scholars that shows deregulating housing does NOT make housing affordable.

Tim Redmond writes about the study that, "Upzoning might make SF affordable—in 100 years. Or we could address economic inequality, the real cause of the problem. The study directly contradicts the narrative that has been driving housing policy at the local, state, and federal level." This is the latest academic study to confirm what our advocacy has always said: San Francisco’s housing unaffordability crisis is not about a lack of housing supply – it’s about a lack of *affordable* housing. What works to make housing affordable is creating permanently, truly affordable housing – not building overpriced housing and waiting for supply-side economics to save the day. https://48hills.org/2026/01/new-study-shows-that-deregulation-is-not-the-answer-to-the-affordable-housing-crisis/

Zelda Bronstein writes, "The Washington Post, of all places, runs a story on a new study debunking the idea that more market-rate housing will bring down prices." We are glad to see the mainstream media acknowledge the growing scholarly dissent from the YIMBYs' profit-driven, supply-side agenda. As Bronstein writes, "Simply unleashing developers to build more homes won't make housing affordable." https://48hills.org/2026/02/finally-a-media-breakthrough-of-the-pro-yimby-narrative-that-has-dominated-press-and-politics/

REP-SF featured! You may have heard the news that YIMBY groups are suing San Francisco, arguing that the Mayor’s upzoning plan does not go far enough.

Joseph Smooke, an organizer with REP-SF was quoted in KQED, highlighting the REP-SF coalition’s analysis that the Family Upzoning Plan will increase real estate speculation and accelerate the displacement of tenants and small businesses across the city.

Smooke said not everyone in San Francisco wants to live in a high-rise condo tower, and most people can’t afford to live in them, but that is exclusively the type of housing the YIMBYs are trying to force the City to build. He explained that if people are displaced because their neighborhoods become too expensive due to new development, it will be hard for them to find a more affordable rental in the city.

Smooke, co-founder of [people. power. media] says: “That household that’s looking for a new place to live is going to be confronted with whatever the market rents are at that time. What you end up with is displacement, not just from communities, but from the city entirely.”

We stand in solidarity with immigrant communities in the Bay Area, Minnesota, and across the country in demanding, "ICE Out of Everywhere!"

We are inspired by the thousands of students who participated in the citywide walkout on Friday to stand with Minneapolis, protect immigrant youth, and defend immigrant rights.
