At the end of the school year, we celebrated the students who promoted from Autonomy Level 3 to Autonomy Level 4, marking the launch of their time in Red Bridge’s Middle School!

The Autonomy Level 3 promotion process enables students to demonstrate and reflect on their readiness for greater ownership over their learning. Over three months, students gather evidence of their Work Habits - how they managed their time, how they collaborated effectively, how they followed through on goals, and more.

They request feedback from teachers, reflect in writing about their goals, and prove that they are capable of moving their learning forward with greater independence. The process is an important learning experience for students regardless of the final outcome. It provides an opportunity for students to consider their strengths and areas of growth in a safe and supported environment.

Students who complete the process and decide to promote to AL4 make a final presentation to their teachers and parents reflecting on their accomplishments.

Thinking back to the incredible collaboration and problem-solving work of our end-of-year Deep Dives!

Each Autonomy Level had the opportunity to showcase the incredible work they did over the two weeks of Deep Dive.

🎲 AL1 presented their original games and explored the question: Why do we play?

🌊 AL2 shared their research on ocean and marine animals through presentations, research, and paper-mâché sculptures of their animal of choice.

🧩 AL3 designed original puzzles and presented their hypotheses on what makes puzzles interesting, engaging, and satisfying to solve.

🍽️ AL4 welcomed our community into their very own restaurant, Table 21 – named after the 21 students in AL4. Through food, storytelling, and hospitality, they gave us a glimpse into why food is such an important part of our cultures, identities, and lives.

We ended the Learning Exhibition with a school-wide “cheers!” to Deep Dive ✨

Thinking back to the incredible collaboration and problem-solving work of our end-of-year Deep Dives!

Autonomy Level 2 students *dove deep* at the Aquarium of the Bay last week as they explored the question, “How have marine species evolved to adapt to their environment?” In addition to being a LOT of fun, this final deep dive of the year has AL2 students learning about everything from unbelievable creatures at the depth of the ocean to phylogeny. 🤿🌊🐙

Food, culture, identity, and community were all on the menu for our AL4 students!

To support their Deep Dive exploration of food and identity, AL4 students visited Al Pastor Papi and the Ferry Building Farmers Market on June 9.

At Al Pastor Papi, students interviewed local legend Miguel Escabedo, executive chef, restaurateur, and farm worker advocate, to learn about his culinary journey and advocacy work. At the Ferry Building, they sampled seasonal produce and spoke with local farmers to gain a deeper understanding of California’s rich agricultural landscape.

Through firsthand conversations and experiences, students explored the many ways food connects us to our histories, communities, and identities.

🐝 S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G B-E-E! 🐝

What started as a personal goal became a school-wide event! Inspired by our annual Geography Bee, one AL3 student took the initiative to design, plan, and host Red Bridge’s very first Spelling Bee.

And what a meaningful personal goal it was! The AL3 student who showed this initiative thought through everything from how to gather participants, stage setup, designing the bee to be fair for students of various ages, and meaningful prizes. The result was a fun afternoon of bringing the community together for friendly competition.

Have you ever wondered how skyscrapers are built? Or how playgrounds can be more inclusive? Or how Scottish castles have evolved over time?

These are a few of the questions AL3 students had that they spent Term 2 diving into! They emailed experts, conducted independent research, and created presentations on architecture topics that truly sparked their curiosity.

Term 2 wrapped up with our Learning Exhibition, where students presented their work to parents and classmates.

The result? Passionate, student-led presentations we’re so proud of. Take a look!

Culture, curiosity, and a little friendly competition 🌎🌁🏆

Can you identify the flag of Cambodia? That was the winning question in last night’s Geography Bee.

Yesterday, we hosted our 2nd Annual Worldly Wise Geography Bee and Festival! Before the Bee, our Worldly Wise Festival brought our community to life, celebrating the many cultures that make us who we are. Students traveled from booth to booth with their “passports,” learning new facts and sampling cuisine from countries around the globe.
