"I grew up in the Excelsior, as did Jerry, and I've spent 24 years overseeing Jerry Day to help keep that connection alive. It's fitting that "Eyes of the World" devotes a room to those formative years. Most people picture Jerry through Haight-Ashbury, but his roots go back further, to a working-class SF neighborhood most fans and Deadheads don't know about. It's a reminder of Jerry beyond just the guitarist — the painter, the thinker, the endlessly curious kid from the Excelsior — which is the spirit we're helping to carry forward, including as we explore the idea of a Jerry Garcia birthplace museum in the neighborhood where it all started."
