Get to know Olgapuri Children’s Village!

In the 1980s, NYF Founder Olga Murray traveled to Nepal and trekked through the Himalayas, an experience that sparked a lifelong commitment to expanding opportunities for children and young people in Nepal. Decades later, that commitment helped bring Olgapuri Children’s Village to life: a safe, permanent community for young people in need of a more stable environment.

In 2025, over 70 children received support at Olgapuri! Our staff provides access to education, healthcare, counseling, and a supportive community, helping children gain the tools and confidence they need to thrive.

As they try new hobbies, build friendships, discover their interests, and find their own paths for the future, our team is continually inspired to watch young people grow at Olgapuri.

At NYF, a $10,000 legacy gift can help keep a 6-year-old girl in school for 12 years, from her first days of primary school all the way through graduation.

That’s 12 years of learning, growing, discovering her strengths, and imagining what her future could become.

Our founder, Olga Murray, understood the power of planning for the future. She included NYF in her own estate plans to help ensure the work she devoted her life to would continue for generations.

Happy International Youth Day from Nepal! Today we celebrate the diverse experiences of young people around the world as they support positive change, bring new perspectives to the table, and follow their dreams. No matter where they grew up, all children deserve a bright future.

At NYF, we are committed to assisting young people as they break down barriers to their aspirations. Through programs at Olgapuri Vocational School, scholarships for educational advancement, and empathetic care, we aim to display our belief in the next generation of youth in Nepal.

We are confident that young people in the communities we serve can achieve anything they set their minds to, and we are proud to be a part of their stories.

We’re excited to share that three more students in the Educating Dalit Lawyers (EDL) program have completed their law school education! Working alongside Dignity Initiative, a Dalit-led NGO based in Kathmandu, NYF has supported young Dalit scholars with financial assistance and mentorship to help them become human rights lawyers.

From test prep for law school entrance exams to their graduation, we have been proud to watch our scholarship recipients develop the skill and confidence they need to be successful advocates in their communities. As they prepare for the Nepali Bar Exam, Dignity Initiative and NYF will continue to provide support and encouragement for the next step of their professional careers.

Get ready to lace up your shoes and join Nepal Youth Foundation for the Olgapuri Trek-a-Thon! Registration is officially open, and we’d love to see you trekking in your community on Saturday, September 26th.

Ten years ago, Olgapuri Children’s Home opened as a family-style home for children in Nepal whose parents are unable to care for them. By providing a high-quality education, health care services, recreational activities, and nutritious meals, our team in Nepal has worked hard to make this a stable and comfortable environment in which young people can thrive.

Just like a walk-a-thon, the NYF community will rally their friends, family, and colleagues to join their team or make a gift in support of Olgapuri. Our founder, Olga Murray, developed her vision for NYF while trekking in Nepal, and we hope that the Olgapuri Trek-a-Thon teams across the globe will take this as an opportunity for connection, inspiration, and getting their steps in!

We're so excited to share that Benju Lwagun, a graduate of NYF’s Educating Dalit Daughter’s (EDD) program, has joined the NYF-Nepal Board. Since the completion of her bachelor’s degree at one of the best private colleges in Kathmandu, Benju has committed her life to a career in social impact. After continuing her education with a master’s degree and working in Jordan and Myanmar, Benju returned home to create pathways to new career opportunities for young Nepalis in the technology sector.

“As someone whose life was transformed by educational opportunity, I know that meaningful change happens when people invest in potential before success is visible,” Benju says.

Growing up in a Dalit family in rural Nepal, Benju felt that her dreams were financially impossible. The EDD scholarship from NYF helped her manage educational expenses, while also providing an opportunity to receive mentorship and support that encouraged her to make those dreams a reality.

Today, young people are receiving assistance through NYF programs like the Caste Equality Project (CEP) that help them envision new possibilities for their future. You can invest in the lives of children in Nepal, giving them life-changing support.

As Parent Appreciation Day approaches this weekend, we're celebrating the incredible team at Olgapuri Children's Village, especially the dedicated houseparents who provide a safe, loving home for more than 80 children every single day. ❤️

Their care is found in the everyday moments: helping with homework, celebrating birthdays, offering encouragement after a hard day, and creating a place where every child feels safe, supported, and at home.

Parenthood is about so much more than biology. It's about showing up with patience, compassion, and unwavering care.

To our amazing houseparents and the entire Olgapuri team, thank you for all you do. Your dedication helps children grow with the love, stability, and support they deserve.

🌟 Today is World Youth Skills Day, a reminder that when people have the opportunity to learn practical skills, they can build bright futures at home.

Pushpa's story is a powerful example.

At just eight years old, Pushpa was sold into indentured servitude, working as a Kamlari. She spent the next 11 years working in different households. Even after gaining her freedom, life remained a daily struggle. She walked long distances to take her son to school before spending each day searching for labor work to support her family.

Everything changed when she enrolled in NYF's Vocational Training Program.

After completing a 20-day food cart training and receiving the equipment to start her own business, Pushpa found more than a source of income. She found confidence, independence, and hope. Today, she saves money each day, invests in her son's future, supports her family in times of need, and is working toward her dream of building a home she can truly call her own.

Her journey has inspired others as well. Pushpa has trained women in her community, served as a guest speaker to encourage aspiring entrepreneurs, and reminds every woman she meets that they are capable of building a future for themselves.

When asked what her food cart means to her, Pushpa said:

"This is my cart. This is who I am. This is my identity. This is what I've built."
