Today, we recognize National Senior Citizens Day.

The American Legion Auxiliary Department of California is proud to honor the older adults in our Legion Family whose wisdom, dedication, and service continue to strengthen our organization and our communities.

Many have spent years leading, mentoring, volunteering, and showing others what it means to serve with purpose. Their experience, stories, and commitment are a gift to our members and to the veterans, military families, and communities we serve.

Today, we celebrate the senior citizens among us with gratitude and respect. Thank you for the example you set, the knowledge you share, and the legacy of service you continue to build.

Today is RED Friday — Remember Everyone Deployed.

Each Friday, we wear red as a visible reminder that our service members are still serving far from home. RED Friday is something everyone can take part in, from our youngest Juniors to our longtime members, families, friends, and communities.

When we wear red, we show support for those deployed, encouragement for the families waiting at home, and gratitude for the sacrifices made in service to our nation.

All ages. One purpose. Remember Everyone Deployed.

Today, the American Legion Auxiliary Department of California recognizes National Airborne Day.

Observed each year on August 16, National Airborne Day honors the courage, skill, and legacy of America’s paratroopers. From the first U.S. Army test parachute jump in 1940 to generations of airborne service that followed, these brave service members have answered the call with dedication, precision, and strength.

We honor all who have served in airborne units and recognize the proud tradition of those willing to go above and beyond in service to our nation.

Colfax Unit 192’s newly elected President, Amanda Burke; Treasurer, Aussie Holcomb; and me, Past District 7 President Debbie Scanzano at their general meeting on August 12, 2026, I had the honor of presenting the Unit with their framed Charter and Charter Membership Roll.

Colfax Unit 192 was newly chartered last year, and I’m very proud to see them beginning this new chapter.

Today, we recognize Navajo Code Talkers Day.

The American Legion Auxiliary Department of California honors the remarkable service, skill, and sacrifice of the Navajo Code Talkers and the Native American servicemembers from many tribes who contributed to our nation’s military efforts. During World War II, Code Talkers used their languages to create secure communications that helped protect missions, save lives, and support victory.

Their code was never broken, and their service remained largely unknown for many years. Today, we remember these extraordinary veterans, honor their legacy, and recognize the important role Native American servicemembers have played throughout our nation’s history.

Today is RED Friday — Remember Everyone Deployed.

The American Legion Auxiliary Department of California encourages everyone to wear red as a sign of support for the brave men and women serving far from home. On this Friday, we also recognize the proud legacy of Native American and Indigenous service members whose courage, sacrifice, and commitment have strengthened our nation’s military throughout history.

As we wear red, we honor all who are deployed, remember the families who stand behind them, and send our gratitude for their continued service.
