Celebrating Our Community, This Month and Every Month

Throughout May, the Asian Pacific Fund (APF) proudly celebrates , , and ( ) Heritage Month. We join our AANHPI community in the Bay Area and across the nation to honor the rich heritage, vibrant cultures, and remarkable contributions of AANHPI individuals.

This month, we at APF also reflect on the reasons that led to our founding in 1993, rooted in love, solidarity, and a deep commitment to uplifting and supporting AANHPIs, especially the most underserved members in our community. More than three decades later, this same spirit continues to guide our work.

This month and every month, we celebrate the diversity of AANHPI cultures and the profound impact AANHPI individuals have made at every level. From grassroots changemakers to national trailblazers, AANHPI voices shape the very fabric of our society.

Now more than ever, it is vital to recognize and elevate those voices to ensure that AANHPIs are seen, heard, and valued. Together with our affiliate nonprofits, partners, and supporters, our work continues to address critical needs such as mental health, language access, and economic security, creating pathways for equity and empowerment.

No matter the challenges ahead, APF stands where we always have: steadfast in our purpose, grounded in love, and unwavering in our resolve to uplift and serve our AANHPI community.

At the Asian Pacific Fund (APF), we recognize the critical role language access plays in empowering our communities, which is why, yesterday, we were proud to support interpretation services at the Asian Pacific Islander Council of San Francisco (API Council) Mayoral Town Hall in the heart of San Francisco's Chinatown.

Through these services, attendees could better understand all five candidates’ views and proposed plans to address pressing issues such as housing, public safety, food security, and senior support services, among many others.

Together with our partners from the API Council, our goal was to ensure that every voter, regardless of language ability, has access to the information they need to make informed decisions. With more than 35 percent of San Francisco’s population identifying as part of the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) community, voters must be informed to fully participate in the electoral process and make their voices heard.

By providing interpretation at the event, we helped bridge any language gap, ensuring that AANHPI voters can clearly understand each candidate’s stance and how they plan to address issues that matter most to our community. No voter should ever be denied the ability to cast an informed vote due to a language barrier.

We have repeatedly seen how language accessibility strengthens our community, and APF remains committed to supporting these efforts for the AANHPI population.

The Asian Pacific Fund (APF) is thrilled to announce that Viet Thanh Nguyen, Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist, esteemed professor, and proud Bay Area native, will be joining us as the Special Guest and our inaugural Community Power Champion at the 2024 Gala!

Viet’s powerful narratives on identity, displacement, and the immigrant experience have not only earned him widespread acclaim but have also played a crucial role in amplifying the voices of AANHPIs. His literary works transcend mere storytelling, fostering a deeper understanding of our community’s diverse experiences. As a University Professor at the University of Southern California, Viet continues to shape and inspire the next generation of thought leaders, further extending his impact.

Viet’s unwavering support for APF has been nothing short of extraordinary. From captivating audiences at the 2023 AANHPI Summit to engaging with our donors during the 30th Anniversary auction dinners, his contributions have been invaluable. We are honored to celebrate his leadership and commitment to our community and look forward to deepening our partnership with him.
