NEXT MEETING: FEBRUARY 28TH!

This Saturday's meeting of the San Francisco Bay Area Post Card Club will focus on the Panama Pacific International Exposition!
In this year's annual PPIE meeting, author, lecturer, and collector Glenn Koch will discuss the rarest of the rare postcards of the Panama Pacific International Exposition. Come prepared to see postcards that you may never get the chance to see again!

THERE WILL ALSO BE DISPLAYS OF NOVAGEMS FROM THE TOWER OF JEWELS, AS WELL AS OTHER SOUVENIRS FROM THE PPIE!

Saturday, Feb. 28, from 12 PM to 3 PM at Fort Mason Center, San Francisco, Building C, Room C-205. The meeting will be called to order at 1:00 PM and the program will follow.

There is an hourly fee for parking within the gates of Fort Mason Center, but upper Fort Mason (enter at Franklin and Bay Streets) and parking spaces along the Marina Green are free. Parking can be difficult, so come early and enjoy the Goody Cafe, Maritime Library, Greens Restaurant or amble through the community garden, because there’s plenty to see and do. We often gather before 11 AM at the picnic tables or in the exhibit area in Bldg. B.

NEXT MEETING: KATHRYN AYRES ON THE POSTCARDS OF THE GOLDEN GATE INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION. SATURDAY, JANUARY 24. FORT MASON CENTER, BUILDING C, ROOM C-205. FREE! Doors open at 12:00; meeting begins at 1:00.
The fair was held to celebrate the opening of San Francisco's two new bridges. The Bay Bridge was dedicated on November 12, 1936; the Golden Gate Bridge was dedicated on May 27, 1937; and on August 26, 1937, dredging for Treasure Island, the site of the fair, was complete. The island was designed to be San Francisco's airport, and did briefly serve as such from 1939 through WWII.
