A venue is more than a backdrop.

The spaces we choose influence transportation patterns, energy use, resource consumption, and ecosystem wellbeing. Regenerative event planning considers how gatherings interact with the environments that hold them.

Thoughtful venue selection supports experiences that are both meaningful and environmentally responsible.

Protecting oceans begins with the choices we make on land.

Healthy oceans support life, regulate climate, and sustain ecosystems across the planet. Yet marine environments continue to face growing pressure from pollution, waste, and unsustainable systems.

This World Oceans Day is a reminder that sustainability is interconnected. The operational choices we make every day influence environmental outcomes far beyond what we immediately see.

Protecting oceans requires collective responsibility, conscious systems, and long-term thinking.

Nature is not a resource to be exhausted. It is a system to protect and regenerate.

This World Environment Day reminds us that sustainability is not only about reducing harm. It is about restoring balance between people, systems, and the natural world.

Every industry has a role to play in protecting ecosystems and supporting long-term environmental wellbeing.

Regenerative thinking challenges us to move beyond extraction and toward responsibility, reciprocity, and care for the environments that sustain us.

The future depends on the choices we make today.

Are the agencies winning right now?
They’re not just executing events—they’re rethinking them.

They’re asking sharper questions, cutting unnecessary waste, designing for reuse, and proving impact with data—not promises.

Because today, success isn’t just about how an event looks—it’s about how responsibly it’s built.

05/11/2026

Sustainable events don’t just reduce waste—they redefine value.

They shift the focus from consumption to intention, from excess to impact, and from short-term impressions to long-term meaning.

What you choose to keep, reuse, and rethink doesn’t just protect resources—it elevates the experience itself.

In honor of Earth Day, Northern California chose to celebrate Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) a little early this year, calling it BAMID (Bay Area Meetings Industry Day), on April 22nd.

WE partnered with PCMA Northern California to bring the meetings and events industry together at the historic Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco. The afternoon focused on education, community, and meaningful industry connections.

Global Meetings Industry Day recognizes the undeniable economic, educational, and social value that meetings, conferences, and exhibitions bring around the world. Our gathering served as a reminder that we also can deliver that same impact in climate-conscious ways.

Our speakers brought real-world experience from the music, touring, and live events industries:
➢ Maggie Baird, Founder of Support + Feed, and mother of multiple Grammy & Academy Award-winning artists, Billie Eilish and FINNEAS
➢ Madeline Weir, Director of Impact at REVERB, and leader within the Music Decarbonization Project
➢ Alyah K., Founder and Principal at Carry On
Together, we explored what it looks like to move “from concerts to conferences” through practical sustainability strategies that can translate directly into meetings and events.

We're also proud to celebrate SFSE Board Member, Jody Brandes, as the recipient of the GMID Pillar Award, recognizing leadership and impact within the meetings and events industry.

The event also included:
➢ Fully plant-based lunch
➢ BYOB (Bring Your Own Badge)
➢ Lanyard recycling through Earthlight
➢ Measuring our carbon reduction in real time
➢ Carbon reduction reporting and shared best practices
➢ Our SFSE Call to Action QR code for access to our community, guidelines, and resources around food systems, sourcing, and materials

Thank you to our speakers, volunteers, partners, sponsors, and attendees for helping make BAMID 2026 such a meaningful industry moment!

SFSE celebrates Earth Day today and every day.

Sustainability is not a one-day commitment. It is embedded in how we plan, partner, and deliver events that drive meaningful impact.

Together, we can continue to move the meetings and events industry forward.

Smart planners ask better questions—and get better outcomes.
Before any contract is signed, clarity matters.

Energy use. Tracking systems. Real sustainability practices—not buzzwords.

Because vague answers today become hidden costs tomorrow.
If they can’t answer clearly, that’s your answer.
