19 families and 41 children received back packs in the event sponsored by Chase Bank. They were filled with school supplies distributed to help children transitioning to kindergarten.
There was an interactive Financial Literacy Workshop where through fun activities parents and children learned about saving, spending wisely, and smart financial decisions. One exciting moment was touring the bank vault where children asked questions and explored. Parents shared they had never been inside a bank vault.

Parents thanked Chase Bank for investing in their children and providing resources to ease the financial burden of school preparation. Many shared appreciations for MNC’s Early Care and Education Program, and the commitment to connecting families with meaningful opportunities.

We welcomed returning and new families to MNC Helen Fabela Chavez Campus for 2026–2027 school year. During the drop-off, children were smiling and excited, pointing at the giant apple and crayon props with shouts of "Wow, look!” Families were greeted with sweet bread and coffee, and a photo booth to capture special first day memories. We also had tables with our MNC Housing and Homelessness Prevention team and the Children's Council, who shared valuable resources. Our first day was a huge success and a wonderful start to the new school year.

MNC Bayview Campus hosted a reading workshop for parents on the importance of play, shared reading, and face-to-face communication. A special guest from the Bay Area Discovery Museum led the English and Spanish workshop and modeled read-aloud techniques parents could use. Several parents shared not growing up with books in their homes but instead learned through folktales passed down within their cultures for storytelling and preserving knowledge.

One memorable activity featured a hands-on snow scene that complemented the story she read aloud about a snow day, bringing the book to life for participants. Parents left the workshop with new strategies to support literacy at home, thoughtful conversations for reflection, and the opportunity to enjoy coffee and Guatemalan pan dulce.

The San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD), Inspector Calder Storm, conducted a "Fire Safety Prevention Training" for the MNC HPP team. We received multi-language fire safety tip sheets and brochures and had a practical fire extinguisher demonstration using an indoor electronic simulator. The team learned:

•Escape planning and procedures to follow if trapped
•The primary causes of fire in residential and workplace settings and methods to prevent them
•Smoke/ carbon monoxide alarms and fire extinguishers
•Earthquake preparedness programs
•The Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT)

MNC Evans Campus hosted an infant massage workshop for babies aged 0–6 months to strengthen the parent-child bond and promote secure attachment between babies and caregivers.

We launched our Parent Child Interaction group (PCI) for children aged 18–36 months and used playdough activities to support the development of motor skills while encouraging coordination, creativity, and motor development.

Seven families participated in a Substance Use Prevention Workshop by Family Services staff Diana Narváez. Parents learned about risk and protective factors associated with substance use, strategies for open communication with adolescents, early warning signs of substance use, and community resources.

Twelve families participated in a Lead Poisoning Prevention Workshop. It emphasized the importance of preventing lead exposure, especially among young children and pregnant women. Participants received guidance on steps to take if lead is suspected in the home and resources and agencies available to report potential lead hazards and request assistance with inspections and remediation services.

Seven families participated in an Asthma Workshop providing information and promoting the prevention and management of this respiratory condition. Participants learned most common symptoms including persistent coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. They learned how to recognize places/situations where exposure to triggers is more likely:

• To***co smoke and other types of smoke
• Dust, dust, mites, mold, and pet dander in the home
• Pollen, air pollution, and sudden changes in temperature
• Strong chemical odors and perfumes

MNC Early Care & Education kicked off the program year with a successful Rooted & Renewed Pre-Service event bringing together ECE staff for a day of learning, reflection, and connection. Staff were inspired by keynote speaker Cynthia Yao, a Head Start alumna, who reminded us of the lasting impact early childhood educators have on children and families. Guest speaker Ronald Mah, Marriage and Family Therapist and child development expert, shared practical strategies for partnering with families and supporting children with challenging behaviors.

The day focused on staff wellness with activities like potting plants, soap making, clay crafting, creating trail mix, Zumba, a nature walk, and games. A day of professional growth, self-care, and reconnecting with our shared MNC mission as we begin another exciting year serving children and families.

The MNC Housing and Homelessness Prevention Services, as part of the San Francisco Family Homelessness Prevention Pilot funded by Tipping Point Community, completed the Learning Collaborative Sessions aimed at fostering a deeper shared understanding, establishing goals for the collaborative, identifying collective priorities, and generating shared recommendations. Over the course of five months, MNC participated in five distinct sessions alongside key partners throughout the city and the network involved in this significant initiative and identifying opportunities to utilize shared recommendations to drive change and progress.

Five MNC HADS (Healthy Aging and Disability Services) participants were part of the 33rd Annual Exhibition Opening Event of AWE (Art with Elders) at Laguna Honda Hospital. 260 guests attended to view 120 artworks created in the AWE class. MNC has collaborated with AWE for 10 years.

Participants were Lorena Perez, Hilda Ibarra Perez, Lilia Cardenas, Grace Kwong, and Ana Miranda. Works are on display at the War Memorial Performing Arts Center Veterans Building lobby from August 16th, 2026 to September 9th, 2026.
