This Volunteer Appreciation Month, we thank our wonderful Team UP volunteers. They are woven into our organization and help UP make a BIG impact through our three programs! Before, during and after disasters, they are:

- Providing a listening ear, and a source of information, encouragement and comfort to disaster survivors in local assistance centers
- Sharing their personal and/or professional expertise through our Roadmap to Recovery workshops, webinars and clinics
- Protecting and defending policyholder rights in courts and legislatures throughout the United States
- Paying forward lessons learned to help others prepare
- Sharing UP resources at wildfire preparedness fairs and serving as UP ambassadors in their own community

Thank you!!

Educate. Advocate. Empower.

One year later. Rebuilding homes and rebuilding lives takes time. More than one year. We commemorate the anniversary and know there is more work to be done and that there is no time when one “should” be recovered by. This one is often the heaviest of the anniversaries. Offer grace to others and to yourself. We have seen extraordinary acts of kindness and strength throughout this recovery.

Thank you Senator Dave Cortese for your leadership in the passage SB 429. The creation of a Public CAT Model is an important step to ensure transparency in the home insurance marketplace. As insurance companies start to base their rates on CAT models created specifically for them by private entities they are highly likely to overstate risk.

The public model serves as a much needed benchmark to protect consumers from being overcharged. It will protect policyholders by serving as a critical check and balance to help expose if private CAT Models are overstating risk, understating mitigation, or being used to justify excessive rates.

United Policyholders commends the focus of the CAT model on academic partnership and public benefit. Because a publicly available model will improve risk communication and empower local governments, homeowners, fire professionals, and insurers alike to make better-informed decisions and ensure a more resilient California.

UP's Executive Director Amy Bach joined the "Insuring the Future" panel in Hartford, CT to speak about managing the economic and social risks of climate change. Thank you to The Standard for covering the panel as they explored how regulators, policymakers, and communities can respond to climate pressures while protecting property, health, and lives.

Join us Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 6:30 PM at Conifer High School for a Community Meeting hosted by the Conifer Wildland Division.

Hear from United Policyholders, the Colorado FAIR Plan, and Senator Lisa Cutter about what’s happening in the insurance market, new coverage options, and how legislation is addressing wildfire risk.

Colorado Roadmap to Preparedness UPdate: 📰

We have been hard at work this year helping Colorado residents be adequately insured and wildfire prepared through our Roadmap to Preparedness program. Our most recent Colorado Shopping Help Webinar (watchable online) features up to date guidance from a panel of experts including the CO Division of Insurance, the head of the CO FAIR Plan and consumer-oriented agents from across the state.

We doubled our impact in 2025, hosting and participating in twice as many public education and support events as we did in 2024. We are bringing our “straight scoop” buying tips and risk reduction/disaster preparedness insights to Boulder, Jefferson, Eagle and Grand Counties, SW Colorado, Colorado Springs and beyond.

We are continuing to strengthen the partnerships that increase our impact.

We are grateful to a primary partner, Fire Adapted Colorado, for helping spread the word about the info and help United Policyholders offers, and to the funders that are supporting our Roadmap to Preparedness work in Colorado: Community Foundation of Boulder County and The Argosy Foundation.
