Call To Action from our friends at Justice in Action:

Justice in Aging opposes the California Assembly’s plan to adopt Governor Newsom’s proposal to impose a $2,000 asset limit for older adults and people with disabilities to qualify for Medi-Cal.

California aging and disability network, please take action TODAY! Call Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel (916-319-2046), chair of the Assembly Budget Committee and Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas (916-319-2029) – urge them to reject this proposal.

The Assembly’s suggested delay in implementation until July 1, 2027 does little to mitigate the harm of this cut. A $2,000 asset limit for Medi-Cal is simply a cruel requirement that unfairly penalizes older adults and people with disabilities.

Talking Points

I am opposed to the Assembly’s agreement to impose a $2,000 asset limit in Medi-Cal for older adults and people with disabilities.

Delaying this proposal is unacceptable, and the Assembly should fully reject this unfair and harmful proposal.

A $2,000 asset limit prevents people from having any savings, putting them one emergency away from financial ruin.

This workshop will share red flags, best practices, and options for addressing an unsafe living environment while protecting your housing. We will discuss examples of habitability problems and what tenants can do to make sure the housing provider maintains the property and gives tenants a safe place to live.

**MISSING PERSON**

The San Francisco Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing, at-risk elderly person.

Rosie McMurray was last seen on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at approximately 3:30 a.m., leaving her residence on the 1200 block of Fillmore Street.

Ms. McMurray is described as an 85-year-old Black female, 5’4”, 170 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes. She is considered “at-risk” because she suffers from Alzheimer's and takes medication for another medical condition.

Ms. McMurray was last seen wearing a beige jacket, jeans, white shoes, and pushing a shopping cart. She is known to frequent the McDonald's at Golden Gate Avenue and Fillmore Street.

Anyone who locates Rosie McMurray should call 911 and report her current location and physical description. As a US citizen and an adult, you have the right to cast your vote in every election, and you have the right to keep this vote confidential. No one at ILRCSF or our partner organizations participating in this event will ever ask who you're voting for, or suggest you vote in any specific way.

Your vote is YOUR vote, but you cannot cast it unless you're registered. Part of the independent living journey is about making sure the voices of people with disabilities are heard, and that people with disabilities or offered the same opportunities to participate in the Democratic system as any other people.
