Backflow prevention isn't glamorous work, but it's essential. Our plumbers and pipefitters install, test, and maintain the cross-connection controls that stop contaminated water from ever reaching a clean supply — keeping homes, hospitals, schools, and businesses across the Bay Area safe.

UA Local 38 Brothers and Sisters,
AB 2313 is currently pending before the Senate Appropriations Committee and is expected to advance to Governor Newsom's desk for a signature or veto.
AB 2313 raids the gas line safety fund that pays for critical infrastructure work performed by union workers and redirects that money to help individual homeowners electrify. It also increases utility bills for customers who remain on the gas system, many of whom cannot afford to switch to electric. Finally, the bill moves ahead before California has finished studying the impacts of neighborhood gas transition pilot programs created under SB 1221, putting workers and ratepayers at risk.
We need to make sure the Governor hears from working Californians before that happens.

Legislation sponsored by the Carpenters union, AB 1751, has been introduced in Sacramento that will undermine prevailing wage by establishing a $28.00 minimum wage for residential construction with No Health Care, Pension or Overtime!

This is a naked attempt to drive down wages in our market so the Carpenters can organize and steal our work!

AB 1751 would pay the skilled workers who build California's homes a flat $28 an hour, roughly half of today's wage, and take away their health insurance, pension, and training. Workers need real protections, not a bill that strips away their security.
