"Floating Points brings his niche classical music obsessions and deep love for dance clubs to his ballet score and new album Mere Mortals...Mere Mortals, said Tamara Rojo, the artistic director of San Francisco Ballet, “takes away centuries of accumulation of different interpretations, and goes back to the beauty of this creation — even if it could be potentially deadly.” Originally, Shepherd had wanted to tell the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer and the atomic bomb, but then Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” was announced. Still, similar themes crop up in the Pandora myth, especially in the climactic opening of the jar (popularly known as a box), which unleashes all the evils of the world." Last week we lost a legend. For decades, costume designer Sandra Woodall was the visual architect of SF Ballet's world premieres. She designed over 50 SF Ballet premieres and built dozens more, shaping the look of our work for decades. Her imprint is on our stage this season Yuri Possokhov's Violin Concerto. Join us in remembering her legacy.
