Parsemus Foundation

Parsemus Foundation We work to create meaningful improvements in human and animal health and welfare by advancing innovative and neglected medical research.

Aside from Vasalgel (our largest project), the foundation’s focus is on supporting small proof-of-concept studies and then pursuing press coverage of the results so that the advances change treatment practice rather than disappearing into the scientific literature. Many of the studies we support involve low-cost approaches that are not under patent. When supporting development of technologies unde

r patent, Parsemus Foundation requires public-sector pricing agreements so that affordability of the end product is assured.

Spaying and neutering have been important tools for population control of dogs and cats. But growing evidence suggests that timing may play a bigger role in lifelong health than previously understood.

A recent study highlighted by the Parsemus Foundation found that dogs altered early in life may show increased frailty as they age, underscoring the importance of natural hormones for long-term development and resilience. This research adds to the growing list of health concerns related to spaying and neutering, and supports the benefits of hormone-sparing sterilization methods.

June is Men’s Health Month, a reminder that good health matters. One health innovation for older men is pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy, a noninvasive approach for treating an enlarged prostate (BPH) and improving quality of life.

The Parsemus Foundation has supported research into PEMF for BPH, with promising results.

June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, a time to bring more attention to one of the most complex and growing health challenges worldwide. Research continues to explore how factors such as exercise, cardiovascular health, insulin resistance, inflammation, sleep quality, and social connection may influence long-term brain function and dementia risk.

Rather than focusing only on treatment after symptoms appear, more researchers are emphasizing prevention and lifelong brain health support. Understanding these connections may help people make more informed choices earlier in life.

The Parsemus Foundation shares ongoing research and educational resources related to Alzheimer’s disease prevention and cognitive health.

Alzheimer’s disease affects millions of people worldwide, yet brain health is influenced by more than age alone. Factors like exercise, sleep, metabolic health, inflammation, and vascular function may all contribute to long-term cognitive outcomes.

This Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, the Parsemus Foundation highlights research and prevention strategies to protect brain health before decline begins.

Fatigue, weakness, headaches, poor concentration, and shortness of breath can sometimes appear long before anemia is officially diagnosed. That’s why evaluating iron deficiency may involve additional markers such as ferritin, transferrin saturation, serum iron, and total iron-binding capacity alongside a standard CBC.

The Parsemus Foundation recently updated our information on diagnosing iron deficiency, with and without anemia, to help explain why symptoms can be missed when testing is incomplete.

Spaying and neutering have long been considered standard care in many countries. It plays an important role in preventing unwanted litters and reducing certain reproductive diseases.

But growing research, highlighted by the Parsemus Foundation, suggests the conversation is more complex. Removing the organs that produce hormones may affect long-term health, with links to joint disorders, obesity, certain cancers, and behavioral changes, depending on factors such as breed and timing.

This doesn’t mean there’s a single “right” choice. It means decisions should be more individualized than before.

If you’re considering options for your pet, the best next step is a conversation with a veterinarian who understands the latest research.

For decades, most contraceptive responsibility has fallen on women, often involving hormones, side effects, and ongoing health risks.

New research and advocacy are shifting that perspective. Expanding male contraceptive options isn’t just about giving men more choices; it’s about reducing the burden on women’s bodies and improving overall reproductive health equity.

Simply put, male contraception is a women’s health priority.

We often think of exercise as something that benefits muscles or weight — but new research shows it works at a deeper level.

When you move, your liver releases signaling molecules that support brain health by protecting blood vessels and reducing damage linked to aging and Alzheimer’s disease.

This is one of the clearest examples of how different organs work together. The brain doesn’t function in isolation.

Movement triggers chemistry. Chemistry shapes long-term health.

May 20 is , a time to celebrate the dogs given a second chance through adoption.

Most rescue dogs are spayed or neutered before adoption, which plays an important role in population control. But in some cases, especially when it happens at a young age, the loss of natural hormones can contribute to ongoing health or behavioral problems.

Emerging research shows that hormone restoration, guided by a veterinarian, may help address issues such as low energy, joint problems, or anxiety in certain dogs. It’s not a universal solution, but for some pets, restoring hormonal balance can improve quality of life.
