Trail Mavens Community:
Just in case you *didn't* see the newsletter last month, there's something important you should know.
There’s no right way to say this, so here goes: Trail Mavens will host its last trips by the end of the year.
There are lots of reasons not to make this decision, and those are the ones that have kept me going:
I love the community we’ve created, seeing friendships forged during trips and happy hours. (Two Mavens who met on a trip just completed the JMT together!)
I have learned so much since starting this project. (‘Exploring outside my comfort zone’ doesn’t begin to describe what this project has required of me.)
Going a little deeper: I feel selfish choosing to end something that’s doing great work in the world. (From a recent feedback form submitted: “I never would have felt confident enough in my own backpacking abilities to take on a trip like this without the group. Everyone really blew me away with their backstories, openness, and willingness to try this new thing.”)
And at the core of it: my identity is so tied up with ‘being the founder of Trail Mavens.’ If Trail Mavens doesn’t exist anymore, who am I?
So many great reasons, right? And yet...
If I listen to my heart, this isn’t my baby anymore. (I have a human one of those that takes up most of my time.)
It’s not the place where I’m learning and growing the most every minute...
..and I’ve finally, finally given myself permission to make the choice that feels right for me.
Trail Mavens was built on the founding value of adventure, and part of my new adventure is figuring out who I am outside of Trail Mavens, and what lights me up when I have some space to explore the question.
If you've never been on a Trail Mavens trip before, it's not too late. We’re leading all the adventures on our calendar through the end of the year, and there are still a handful of spots left. We’re actively brainstorming ways to make these last few total blowouts, so if you've yet to experience a Trail Mavens trip—when equals now.
And as far as this page goes, stay tuned! We'll still be keeping the adventure going with day hikes, happy hours, stories, and occasional goodies.
Questions? Comments? Happy to field ‘em.
Hugs and High Fives,
Sasha
