In collaboration with and , Proud Stutter is a short film featuring Maya Chupkov, who grew up with a stutter she believed she needed to overcome, embarking on a transformative journey of self-acceptance. Realizing that stuttering is simply another way of speaking, she creates a podcast to amplify the voices of those who share her experience. Through candid conversations, Maya creates a space where people who stutter can find strength, connection, and a voice.

Watch the full short film at the link in our bio. And make sure to give a follow.✨

Transcript:
Maya: Oh, my gosh. I love that. It’s a reminder for me that it’s okay not to be okay. I think I’m still trying to untrain myself to not just ignore the feelings.

Narrator: This is Maya. Maya is a passionate journalism policy advocate who lives in beautiful San Francisco. She’s a loving fiance, caring sister, and not to forget, a patient dog mom. Besides all of these, Maya also happens to live with a stutter,

which she hid for most parts of her life. But not anymore.

Thank you ! We’re grateful to receive this multi-year support, which helps us to further uplift artists and creators of all kinds. What an honor to stand alongside this dedicated group of Bay Area arts service organizations.

We are delighted to announce the 2026-2028 Linchpin grantees!

The Fleishhacker Foundation’s Christine Elbel Linchpin Grant Program provides three years of unrestricted support to key Bay Area arts service organizations that help local artists to do their important work. These critical organizations serve thousands of Bay Area artists and arts workers each year through fiscal sponsorship, advocacy, training, workspace, and so much more. The program is named in honor of our former Executive Director Christine Elbel, who launched it in 2017.

Congratulations to the new cohort!

We are honored to support their vital work.

From IAM affiliate …

INTRODUCING: Swept Off The Map, a five-part investigative project about encampment management policy and practices in Richmond, Berkeley, and Oakland. Street Spirit Research fellows Cole Haddock and Maria Toldi spent the last 6+ months working on this investigative series, with the goal of creating a tool for researchers and journalists who want to learn more about unsheltered homelessness in the Bay Area.

California’s homelessness crisis has grown steadily in the past decade. As encampments have become more visible, so too has the public pressure to respond. Encampment sweeps—the removal of unhoused people from public spaces—have become a primary response.

This work ensures that the reality of encampment sweeps are understood, documented and remembered at a local level.
