We’re hiring a Tree Care Program Manager! 🌳The Tree Care Program Manager plans, develops, and manages our tree care and watering programs to optimize young trees’ health during their critical 3-to-5-year establishment period. They are responsible for making approximately 3,500 tree care visits annually and watering 1,100 trees per week. This is a hybrid role split between field operations and program management out of our office in the Presidio.

We’re hiring a Community Engagement Manager! 🌳 We plant about 1,600 trees in San Francisco each year using a community planting model that involves neighborhood residents, community organizations, volunteers, and staff. The Community Engagement Manager serves as a liaison between Friends of the Urban Forest and the communities we work with across San Francisco.

Our long-time collaborators, GIC, are celebrating 40 years in San Francisco by planting 40 trees! 🎉 As part of GIC’s commitment to building resilient and livable communities, their dedicated team kicked off the celebration last month by planting 12 trees in the Bayview alongside our Green Crew. The trees they planted included Brisbane box, California buckeye, California Lilac, chitalpa, and trident maple. They’ll be back in the fall to plant more! 🌳🌳🌳

Have you ever wondered why trees need to be pruned? ✂️ Pruning removes dead, dysfunctional, damaged, and diseased branches (the 4Ds). Removing the 4Ds improves a tree’s structure, growth and health. Big thanks to the tree care volunteers from BeeSure USA for pruning young street trees in the Western Addition! 🌳
