Happy Independence Day, Ukraine! 💙💛 🇺🇦
The Hromada team in California warmly congratulates the entire Ukrainian family - both in Ukraine and around the world - on Ukrainian Independence Day!
We are sharing photos from Independence Day events in San Francisco: the ceremonial raising of the Ukrainian flag at City Hall on August 21, 2026, and the Ukrainian Independence Day celebration in Golden Gate Park on August 23, 2026.
This year, we commemorate the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of the Act restoring Ukraine’s independence. For those of us who remember those historic days, 35 years represent a significant part of our lives. Yet, in the context of the Ukrainian people’s thousand-year history, it is only a moment -one that we are honored to witness.
The path to freedom and the establishment of Ukrainian statehood has never been easy. It has been difficult and painful, marked by struggle, loss, and the self-sacrifice of many generations of Ukrainians. For more than twelve years, Ukraine has been fighting for its right to live freely on its own God-given land. For more than four and a half years, russia has waged a full-scale genocidal war aimed at destroying Ukrainian identity, burning our cities and villages, taking human lives, and devastating our cultural heritage.
Yet, despite every pessimistic prediction and every attempt by the aggressor to break our will, Ukraine has endured. Thanks to the heroism of Ukrainian warriors, the resilience of civilians, the selfless dedication of volunteers, and the support of the United States, the European Union, and the entire democratic world, Ukrainians continue their struggle for freedom, dignity, and a future.
We are deeply grateful to all the sons and daughters of Ukraine whose courage ensures that our country remains on the world map. We thank democratic governments and their people for their financial, military, humanitarian, and material support. Humanity has a face. Truth and light must prevail over tyranny and lies. The world must return to the unwavering rule of international law, respect for national borders, and inevitable accountability for terrorist states such as putin’s russia.
We extend our special and heartfelt gratitude to San Francisco Mayor Lurie, the City of San Francisco, and Senator Scott Wiener for their consistent and steadfast support of Ukraine and the Ukrainian community. It means so much to us to feel the solidarity of a city that raises the Ukrainian flag, amplifies our voice, and stands with us in defense of freedom, democracy, and a just peace.
Today, with profound respect, we remember all our Heroes who gave the most precious thing they had—their lives—for Ukraine. Eternal memory and glory to each and every one of them. Your sacrifice guides us today and will continue to guide generations to come.
We thank the volunteers, charitable foundations, nonprofit organizations, and all friends of Ukraine throughout the world. The volunteer movement is a vital force that tirelessly delivers assistance where it is needed most—to Ukraine’s defenders, families, communities, and children.
Friends, let us remain active, united, and committed until our Victory.

Ділимося світлинами зі святкових подій у Сан-Франциско: урочистого підняття українського прапора на мерії міста 21 серпня 2026 року та відзначення Дня Незалежності України в Golden Gate Park 23 серпня 2026 року.
Цьогоріч ми відзначаємо 35-ту річницю проголошення Акта відновлення незалежності України. Для тих із нас, хто пам’ятає ті історичні дні, це значний відрізок життя. Та в контексті тисячолітньої історії українського народу — це лише мить, свідками якої маємо честь бути.
Шлях до свободи й утвердження державності ніколи не був легким. Він був тернистим, сповненим боротьби, втрат і самопожертви багатьох поколінь українців. Уже понад дванадцять років Україна виборює своє право бути вільною на власній, Богом даній землі. Понад чотири з половиною роки триває повномасштабна геноцидна війна, розв’язана росією, яка прагне знищити українську ідентичність, спалює наші міста й села, нищить людські життя та культурну спадщину.
Та попри всі песимістичні прогнози, попри намагання агресора зламати нашу волю, Україна вистояла. Завдяки героїзму українських воїнів, стійкості цивільних, жертовності волонтерів і підтримці США, країн Європейського Союзу та всього демократичного світу українці продовжують боротьбу за свободу, гідність і майбутнє.
Безмежна вдячність усім синам і дочкам України, завдяки яким наша держава є і залишається на світовій карті. Дякуємо демократичним урядам і народам за фінансову, військову, гуманітарну та матеріальну підтримку. Бо людяність має обличчя. Бо правда і світло мають перемагати тиранію та брехню. Світ повинен повернутися до непохитності міжнародного права, поваги до державних кордонів і невідворотної відповідальності для країн-терористів, якою є путінська росія.
Окрема щира подяка меру Сан-Франциско Деніелу Лурі ( Lurie), міській адміністрації Сан-Франциско та сенатору Скотту Вінеру (Scott Wiener)за послідовну й постійну підтримку України та української громади. Для нас надзвичайно важливо відчувати солідарність міста, яке підносить український прапор, підтримує наш голос і разом із нами стоїть на боці свободи, демократії та справедливого миру.
Сьогодні з особливою пошаною згадуємо всіх наших Героїв, які віддали найдорожче — власне життя — за Україну. Вічна пам’ять і слава кожному та кожній. Ваш подвиг — наш дороговказ сьогодні й на багато поколінь уперед.
Дякуємо волонтерам, благодійним фондам, неприбутковим організаціям і всім друзям України в різних куточках світу. Волонтерський рух — це життєдайна сила, що невпинно спрямовує допомогу туди, де вона найбільше потрібна: до українських захисників, родин, громад і дітей.
Друзі, продовжуймо бути активними, єдиними та небайдужими — аж до нашої Перемоги.
