Wonder what it's like to be a CASA volunteer? Here's a glimpse from the perspective of a local youth in foster care:

“When I was first placed in foster care, I was taken to a receiving home. There were lots of kids there, and the first few weeks were a blur... But I do remember a face emerging as a consistent figure during that time who came just to visit me. I came to know him as James, my CASA volunteer."

CASA volunteers provide stability and care during some of the most challenging times in a child in foster care’s life. Many start with the desire to help, but find the experience just as rewarding for themselves.

Now’s a critical time to get involved and make a lasting impact. Interested? Join us for an info session at sfcasa.org/volunteer

The power of mentorship and education shines, especially for foster youth. Against daunting odds, tales of resilience emerge. 🌱

A former foster youth, now a dedicated patient care coordinator and aspiring attorney, recounts her experience with her CASA. 🎓

"For many, having someone to help navigate life's challenges seems commonplace, but for a former foster child like me, it feels like a gift." she shares.

Her journey underscores the difference our CASA volunteers make. With the right support, every student can soar, defying barriers to higher education and careers.

Let's transform statistics, one success story at a time. đź’«

To our CASA champions: Your commitment lights the way. Thank you for turning dreams into realities. 🙏

CASA volunteers look like ordinary people, but the work they do is extraordinary. Here is an example from a former foster youth:

“He would do things with me like take me out to eat or take me to the movies. I know this seems like normal stuff but it was completely missing from my life once I entered foster care.”

“Being a CASA is an amazing experience. I loved listening to my CASA child talk to me about simple things like school and how his day went. I know a lot of people get nervous about the time commitment but it is something that just comes naturally. The visits I had with my CASA child quickly became a highlight of my week.”

One caring adult can help a child see a future beyond what they have experienced.

For many children in foster care, past experiences of abuse, neglect, and instability can make it hard to trust others. Some have spent so much time adapting to change that it feels unsafe to hope for something different.

CASA volunteers help create space for a child’s voice to be heard. They show up consistently and without judgment, ensuring a child’s needs are not overlooked by the systems making decisions around them.

For a foster child who has felt unseen, that support can be the beginning of trust and hope.

She is so excited to spend time together throughout the summer, and the top thing on her list was asking me to take her to a local college campus.

Knowing that only 10% of go to college made me grateful to have the chance to talk about higher education together. 🎓

“I took a really active role in her IEPs (Individualized Education Programs) and advocating for her needs. If I weren’t there doing that, so much would have fallen through the cracks.

Again, CASA volunteers just have a very critical role to fill in the life of a foster child.” 💛
