Advocacy is making sure the right things get heard.

Foster youth can have teachers, social workers, attorneys, caregivers, and other professionals involved in their life, and still have an important concern get missed.

A CASA volunteer has the time to listen closely and ask relevant questions, bringing important details back into the conversation.

The don't speak for a young person, rather, they help make sure their needs and concerns don’t get lost amongst everything else happening around them.

Good advocacy helps to turn “I mentioned it” into “someone heard me.” 💜

Sometimes all it takes is one person believing in you to help you see a future that you never thought was possible before.

For young people in foster care, having a CASA volunteer in their corner can mean having someone who listens, advocates, and helps them believe in what comes next. Every young person deserves that.

From courtrooms to hospital rooms, CASA volunteers can be the familiar and trusted presence through difficult transitions.

One CASA volunteer shared:

"I think the most important part I played was being there for the (10-year-old) child when she was alone in the emergency room on a Friday night for hours, and then again when she was moved to a psychiatry hospital for a week. I was the only person to come and visit her. I stopped by her foster family and picked up clothes she needed, and helped her arrange her room at the hospital, talk to her and reassure her.💟"

Simply being the person who is consistently present can mean the world to our foster youth.

Every young person deserves to feel seen for who they are.

For youth in foster care, staying connected to their culture, traditions, language, and identity can help build a sense of belonging and confidence.

34% of children and youth supported by CASA programs across California are Latino. Having an advocate who understands the importance of culture, or who shares parts of a young person’s background, can help them feel seen, comfortable, and proud of who they are.

Because representation matters. And so does knowing your story is worth honoring.

Wonder what it's like to be a CASA volunteer? Here's a glimpse from the perspective of a local youth in foster care:

“When I was first placed in foster care, I was taken to a receiving home. There were lots of kids there, and the first few weeks were a blur... But I do remember a face emerging as a consistent figure during that time who came just to visit me. I came to know him as James, my CASA volunteer."

CASA volunteers provide stability and care during some of the most challenging times in a child in foster care’s life. Many start with the desire to help, but find the experience just as rewarding for themselves.
