196 years ago today, Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act into Law. This law created the Trail of Tears, forcing Native American tribes to surrender their ancestral lands and relocated westward.

Today we honor the lives of Native Indigenous Peoples of Turtle Island. And we will never forget the violence inflicted on Indigenous people in the United States in the name of colonization.

As a part of Mental Health Awareness Month, we wanted to share a modality that we use at CompassPoint: the RAIN Meditation. We offer this practice from Tara Brach, alongside some journaling prompts. So find a sheet of paper a quiet corner or a cozy surface, and let this carousel guide you.

Here's what RAIN stands for:
R: Recognize what is happening
A: Allow life to be just as it is
I: Intimately Inquire
N: Nurture with Loving Presence

We hope this practice helps you find some grounding and peace within your days✨

Did you know that CompassPoint has exclusive offerings for BIPOC leaders*?

Being in a room with other BIPOC leaders who share similar lived experiences creates a rare sense of belonging.

Coming up in June, we have two workshops and a panel exclusively for BIPOC leaders:
🖤 Conflict Resolution with Power and Privilege in Mind begins June 9th
🖤 Facilitation Skills: Creating Powerful and Purposeful Meetings begins June 16th

BIPOC leaders often carry the weight of racial fatigue and emotional labor at their organizations. We see you, so let's spaek candidly about it!

Join us at any one of these offerings by registering at https://www.compasspoint.org/workshops

*BIPOC = Black, Indigenous, People of Color

Happy birthday to Yuri Kochiyama and Malcom X! Here's a repost from AAPI Women Lead whom we thought put it best:

Yuri Kochiyama and Malcolm X interacted in person and by mail over 16 months from 1963 to Malcolm X’s murder in 1965. They developed a friendship and political alliance where they were were both politicized by prisons and were advocates for Black nationalism and against war—and they even shared a birthday, four years apart.

In times of organizational, social, and personal transition, the pressure to assimilate, minimize, or set aside one's values can be immense. This powerful panel brings together leaders, practitioners, and change-makers who have remained rooted in pro-Black values, communal accountability, and a commitment to justice even when the terrain is uncertain.

Panel: Leading with Pro-Black Values During Change & Transition
🗓️ Wednesday, June 17th
⏰ 12-2 pm Pacific on Zoom
💵 Cost: Free
✊🏾Who: This space is for YOU, Black leaders who refuse to leave your values at the door.
RSVP: https://ow.ly/aEo450Z1SSC

In this panel, we'll explore:
❤️ What it means to lead with pro-Black values — and why it matters more, not less, during change
💚 Strategies for holding vision and identity in the face of institutional or social pressure
🖤 Building and sustaining community in the middle of uncertainty
💛How to invest in people to support the longterm sustainability of our movements

We're looking forward to having an honest and forward-looking conversation.

As a part of Mental Health Awareness Month, we wanted to share the Community Agreements we offer for our workshops. Rather than co-creating agreements, we offer these norms. We hope that you find the inspiration to incorporate these into your movement spaces or workplaces:

#1 - Take the learning, leave the story - Leave the stories and take the lessons with you.
#2 - Say it unpolished - Bring a burning question or your deep desire to understand without needing to worry about how it sounds. Be authentic rather than thinking about the gift wrapping.
#3 - Create space / Accept space - Think about how you like to engage, and find a conscientious rhythm that welcomes others in their voices.
#4 - Try on being a learner and a guide - We all have something to contribute to this learning, and we see this space as a collective learning event.
#5 - Be your own boo (BYOB) - Take care of yourself!

Conflict can be scary, but it doesn't have to be. When we take the time and space to intentionally slow down and explore our own relationship to conflict—namely, what drives our reactions and how our approach to conflict relates to power and privilege—we can be prepared to navigate any conflict that may arise.

For Leaders who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, there's an added layer of nuance when it comes to navigating conflict in the workplace. We have created this workshop exclusively for BIPOC leaders, so that you can share more honestly about the challenges you face and strengthen your conflict navigation skills with a community that resonates.

🖊️ Conflict Resolution with Power and Privilege in Mind for BIPOC Leaders
