🤔 Did you know that polyps, like moles, are just spots that can grow and change inside your colon?

Not all polyps are even cancerous!🎉

However, unlike moles, we can't see polyps on our skin to know how they’re doing.

Even though it can be uncomfortable to talk about, we need a special tool to find polyps, like the kind used in a colonoscopy.

Meet Vanessa Ford, colorectal cancer warrior and Team Captain of “Team Chemo Saba” participating in Get Your Rear in Gear - San Francisco Bay Area.

“The name of my team comes from the bracelet business that I started during chemo in March — Chemo Sabe Co,” shares Vanessa. “Chemo Sabe is a playful interpretation of the name Kemosabe, from the Lone Ranger. We are fellow warriors and supporters, and the community that stands beside us in the fight against cancer.”

“I was diagnosed last October with stage IIIB colon cancer. I want to raise awareness of CRC, particularly early-adult-onset, to encourage early diagnosis and preventive screening.”

“I finished chemo in May, and hopefully I will be NED at the next test/scan. Participating in this race will hopefully be my victory walk💙”

Meet Amanda Webb, a colorectal cancer survivor participating in Get Your Rear in Gear - San Francisco Bay Area.

“I’m excited to return to the SF GYRIG this year,” shares Amanda. “I was diagnosed with stage IV CRC almost 5 years ago at age 36. I was 31 weeks pregnant with my son at the time. I was able to start chemo while pregnant, deliver my son, become a candidate for surgery, get a clear pathology report, and finish chemo as a precaution. I am NED and very lucky.”

“Being pregnant led to my diagnosis, as we received a false positive for a rare chromosome in the baby, and the hospital took it a step further to see if anything in me was the underlying issue for the false positive. After completing treatment, I came to find out that cancer would always be part of my identity.”

“I’m an active recreational runner in SF and look forward to the race in July!”

Meet Tamara Rivera, Team Captain of “Footloose,” sharing why she participates in Get Your Rear in Gear - San Francisco Bay Area.

“My best friend, Meagan, lost her battle on October 10th, 2024. She was only 43."

“I think she started having an upset stomach, and they thought she had diverticulitis, but after a trip to the ER, they discovered the mass on her liver, and she was diagnosed with stage IV [colorectal cancer] in April 2022.”

“She fought an incredibly strong battle and never complained about any of her pain. She left behind her husband of 19 years, together for 26 years, and so many friends and family.”
