Greetings,
As President of the Leather Alliance, I want to extend a sincere apology to anyone in our community who has been hurt—whether through words or actions—by any board member, past or present. While I am not privy to the specifics of transgressions that occurred before I assumed this leadership role in March 2024, I encourage you to reach out to me directly.
Since taking office, the remaining board member, Rio (our Secretary), and I have worked tirelessly to gain access to our QuickBooks accounts as we prepared to onboard our new Treasurer, Deb. Unfortunately, we only secured limited access within the last month.
Our bank records are now updated and intact. Just yesterday, December 6, Deb and I visited our Credit Union to address outstanding financial issues. Unfortunately, the previous Treasurer did not attend as expected. Despite this setback, we are steadily moving forward toward compliance and will continue to keep the community informed of our progress.
Since the new board elections in March, we’ve hit the ground running. Highlights include producing two successful days of Leather Alley at Pride, where we provided free booth space to community organizations and paid over 40 performers and staff. Staying true to one of the Alliance’s core missions, we also awarded a $500 grant to a community member in severe financial distress due to ongoing health issues.
We welcome ongoing, civil discourse. While I cannot justify the actions of previous board members, I am committed to listening and understanding your concerns. For those who know me or have worked with me, you are likely aware that I am socially awkward yet approachable.
All I can offer is a path forward—a dedicated effort to rebuild trust and uphold the Alliance’s values. In the meantime, we are diligently planning an outstanding contest for 2025, which will restore the Mr. SF Leather contest to its world-class stature.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. Wishing you all a happy and safe holiday season.
Sincerely,
Al Rahm
President
