What does sustained government investment in community health make possible? Kisumu County offers a compelling example.

The county has invested KSh600 million in community health, supporting 2,943 community health promoters across 291 community health units. Between 2021 and 2025, CHPs made 11.48 million household visits and referred more than 71,000 pregnant women for maternal health services.

The county also reports increased antenatal care use and declines in maternal and under-five mortality over that period.

We commend Dr. Gregory Ganda and the Kisumu County leadership for championing community health and investing in the people and systems that bring care to families’ doorsteps.
