Annetโ€™s story reflects the real-world impact behind our latest quarterly performance data. In Q1 2026, our learning sites continued to generate crucial insights on how to build resilient, government-led, and digitally enabled community health systems:

๐—•๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ธ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฎ ๐—™๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ผ: Proactive supervision enabled Community Health Workers (CHWs) to surpass pregnancy registration targets (averaging 3.5 per month vs. a 2.5 target). Stronger collaboration between midwives and CHWs is broadening family planning access and streamlining referral data.

๐—ž๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜†๐—ฎ (๐—•๐˜‚๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ฎ): Reached a major milestone with the full transition of CHW compensation, commodity supply, and training to government ownership. Despite stock-out challenges for malaria testing kits (mRDTs), the site showed immense resilience with strong household coverage and data syncing.

๐—จ๐—ด๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฎ: Achieved exceptional results in family planning, exceeding targets for Couples Years of Protection by 117%, driven by strategic partner integrations and strong digital tool adoption (78% active eCHIS users).

Dive deeper into our data, operational learnings, and community health breakthroughs across East and West Africa.

Living Goods recently hosted a training for journalists on epidemic preparedness and response with support from the Global Health Advocacy Incubator. The training brought together media professionals from Uganda to strengthen their understanding of outbreak preparedness and the role of accurate, evidence-based reporting during health emergencies.

Importantly, district health leaders from Wakiso and Mayuge districts together with Senior Surveillance Officers from the Ministry of Health, joined the discussion to highlight why epidemic preparedness must be prioritized not only in response efforts, but also in annual health plans and budgets. Preparedness requires sustained investment in the systems that detect and respond to outbreaks before they escalate.

Community health workers are often the first line of defense during health emergenciesโ€”supporting surveillance, educating communities, identifying suspected cases, and helping combat misinformation before it spreads. Ensuring these frontline systems are adequately funded is essential to protecting communities and strengthening health security.

Watch the news coverage below to see how responsible journalism, grounded in Ministry of Health guidance and fact-based reporting, helps reduce community anxiety, counter misinformation, and reinforce appropriate infection prevention and control measures during public health emergencies.

A routine home visit in Burkina Faso became the difference between life and death for Saodate.

When community health worker Mariam visited her during pregnancy, she quickly recognized danger signs and urged her to seek urgent care. That decision saved Saodateโ€™s life.

After experiencing the heartbreak of losing her baby during a high-risk pregnancy, Saodate chose to trust Mariamโ€™s guidance during her next pregnancy and later welcomed a healthy baby girl.

This story is a powerful reminder that community health workers are often the first line of care, bringing life-saving support directly to families where and when it matters most.

Behind every health data point is a real person, a mother needing follow-up care, a child missing treatment, or a community health worker trying to reach more families with limited time and resources.

This article highlights how Busia County and Living Goods are using intelligent digital tools to strengthen supervision and improve continuity of care at the community level.

What stands out most is how the technology supports better human decision-making:

โ†’ Prioritising households that need urgent follow-up

โ†’ Helping supervisors target support where it is needed most

โ†’ Reducing missed opportunities for care

When designed well, digital health tools can help health systems become more proactive, responsive, and equitable.

An important glimpse into the future of community health systems. Read more:

In just three months, together with governments and partners, we:

โœ… Reached 4.7 million people

โœ… Supported 9,803 community health workers

โœ… Delivered 255,000+ treatments for sick children

โœ… Kept costs to just $1.21 per person

Behind these numbers is something bigger:

A shift toward sustainable, government-led community health systems that can deliver impact at scale.

This is what it looks like when lifesaving care reaches familiesโ€”no matter where they live.

"I may not be a doctor, but I'm saving lives."

Nyende Abdul Aziz cycles through rural Uganda each day, smartphone in hand, community's trust at his back, delivering care, tracking data, and connecting families to a health system that would otherwise never reach them.

He represents thousands like him powering primary health care across Africa.

Global health is at an inflection point. Countries are being asked to build sustainable, government-led systems with less external support. The pressure is real but so is the opportunity.

We'll be engaging on:

โ€ข Professionalizing and financing CHWs

โ€ข Digital transformation and AI for government-led health systems

โ€ข Workforce optimization and frontline support

One question will guide us: What does it truly take for community health systems to scale and perform at national level?

Technology alone isn't the answer. Real impact comes from well-supported community health workforce, functioning systems, and governments leading the way.

Policies don't reach households. People do.

Next week, Living Goods heads to Geneva for the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA79) at a defining moment for global health.

As financing shifts and governments take greater ownership, the need to scale community health sustainably and affordably has never been more urgent.

Our team will be engaging in key conversations on:
๐Ÿ“Œ Professionalizing and financing CHWs
๐Ÿ“Œ Digital transformation for community health
๐Ÿ“Œ AI and government-led health systems
๐Ÿ“Œ Workforce optimization and frontline health support

At Living Goods, we believe technology alone is not enough. Real impact comes from strong community health systems powered by supported CHWs, effective supervision, and robust digital infrastructure.

We look forward to connecting with governments, partners, and funders shaping the future of community health. Will you be at WHA79? ๐Ÿ‘‡

At , delegates will talk about how health systems can deliver more with less.

For community health, the answer cannot be more short-term projects.

Many countries now have proCHW policies. But policy on paper doesnโ€™t always translate into consistent access to care.

Without funding for CHWs written into national budgets, these commitments risk remaining under-implemented and vulnerable to funding shocks.

Our ask is clear: sustained domestic financing for proCHWs, alongside catalytic funding that helps countries move from policy commitments to implementation. Making proCHWs the norm worldwide depends on it.

What can the world learn from coalition-driven approaches to strengthening community health systems?

Join CHU4UHC platform the The Ministry of Health, and partners at the 79th World Health Assembly for an interactive session grounded in Kenyaโ€™s experience advancing community health through collaboration, government partnership, and shared accountability.

Through frontline perspectives, cross-sector dialogue, and real-world case studies, the conversation will explore how governments, funders, civil society, and community health workers can work together to build stronger and more resilient systems.

This session is designed as a space for practical reflection, exchange, and learning across countries and contexts. We invite you to be part of this timely and practical discussion:
