South Asian Giving Circle (SAGC)

South Asian Giving Circle (SAGC) Supporting philanthropic causes within our ethnic community in the Bay Area. Today, few philanthropic dollars go to South Asian American communities and causes.

Supported by AAPIP, Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP), a national group dedicated to advancing Asian American communities, SAGC is creating a movement; join us to help change the status-quo & recycle our dollars into our community in the Bay Area. In 2010, with happy hours, raffles, direct donations, and a fund-match, we raised $10,000. Through an online voting system, SAGC

donors voted to grant these pooled funds to three local non-profits:

+ $5,000 to Narika: to support their domestic violence toll free helpline
+ $3,000 to Maitri: to support general operations such as their information and counseling helpline and their Legal Advocacy Program
+ $2,000 to Sangati Center: to support general operations such as their public concerts and programs promoting Indian classical music

This season, share the gift of an Education. Consider donating to LAMP (learning and migration program) via AIF (www.aif.org).

$50 covers the cost of educating one child in need for the *full year*. Donate here: https://my.aif.org/fundraise/team?ftid=37935

About LAMP:
Across India, approximately 72 million people migrate from their villages in remote rural areas every year in search of labor, uprooting entire families for up to eight months at a time in hazardous work sites. All too often, children are forced to migrate with their parents, leaving behind their schools, friends, and communities. LAMP works to educate and nurture children in areas of high seasonal migration in India by providing resources to attend local schools, stable home and educational environments, as well as safe and structured care in seasonal residential hostels during migration season.

The Light a LAMP crowdfunding campaign will rally citizens across the globe to help give an education for 5,000 children of Indian migrant workers.

So far, LAMP has been instrumental in educating over 280,000 children in over 9 states in India. It only takes $50 to support one child's education for the whole year! Please take a moment to contribute whatever amount, small or large, to create a better life for these children and their families at aif.org/lightalampbayareayp.

SAGC is proud to support AIF and their LAMP initiative. Please 'share' to spread the word.

Food: The Perfect Gift
Help feed families in need this holiday season. With your help, the Food Bank will distribute more than 100,000 meals each day during the holidays. Host a Food & Fund Drive and we’ll make it easy to get your friends, family, business or organization involved.

CANstruction Annual Design Competition
From November 12 – 17 see giant sculptures created entirely of canned food to be donated to the Food Bank. Each sculpture — in this year’s theme of CANnes Film Festival — is designed by local architects and engineers who are volunteering their time to create public art and support the Food Bank.

Food from the Bar Results
Thank you to all Food from the Bar 2012 participants for your generous support. Collectively, 73 law firms and legal departments raised $565,969, collected 9,729 pounds of food and completed 889 volunteer shifts! All the hard work will allow the Food Bank to distribute enough food for nearly 1.7 million meals.
