APAMSA - Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association

APAMSA - Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association APAMSA is committed to addressing the unique health challenges of Asian Pacific American communities through education, outreach, advocacy, and service.

APAMSA's foundation was laid in 1993 by Asian American students worried about the present and future of the APA community. These students began to discuss issues that they felt were ignored by existing organizations and formed groups at their local schools to help understand the unique challenges they faced as Asian Pacific Americans in medicine. These chapters also began to meet with each other i

n what would lead to the now annual APAMSA National Conference. APAMSA officially started in 1995 with the first National Conference and has grown in many directions. There are several national projects coordinated by APAMSA. These include the Hepatitis B education and immunization project and the Bone Marrow Donation project. As our membership and sponsorship increases, we hope to expand our involvement in related campaigns. Asian Pacific Americans, often labeled as “model minorities,” actually suffer from devastating medical illnesses and in reality live far from “model” lives. As a result of this label, many of the issues that affect the APA community are often ignored. Help us provide an essential voice to a growing population of over 10 million Asian Pacific Americans!

Introducing our 2026-2027 Strategy Branch Committee Members! 💫

The 🌟Student Specialty Section (SSS) Committee 🌟creates dedicated, specialty-focused spaces for AANHPI students to engage in mentorship, educational programming, and professional development. They work to build long-term specialty-based networks that reflect APAMSA’s mission and foster connection, collaboration, and visibility for underrepresented AANHPI voices across medical disciplines. Each section is led by a Student Representative, who will coordinate national initiatives and serve as a liaison between their specialty community and the APAMSA National Board. Their role includes contributing to specialty-specific programming and collaborating with students, alumni, and faculty to build inclusive, impactful communities for medical and pre-medical students.

The 🌟Pre-Health Committee🌟 represents, expands, and creates engaging programming for the Pre-Health APAMSA community. The Committee focuses on pre-health chapter recruitment and event planning. Pre-Health Directors reach out to undergraduate institutions and guide interested pre-health/pre-med students through the process of setting up an APAMSA Pre-Health Chapter at their schools. They plan and host successful events throughout the year, including those within the Big/Little Mentorship Program, and increase engagement among pre-health students at National APAMSA Regional Conferences, National Conference, and virtual events.

From our APAMSA family to you: Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈✨

The intersection of being q***r, Asian, and in medicine can carry layers of identity, resilience, generational complexity, and joy. This month, we’re celebrating and uplifting q***r Asian voices in medicine by centering identity, visibility, and community across healthcare and medical education. We are here, and we matter!

We are launching the Q***r Asian Health Equity Series, a programming series held throughout the year dedicated to exploring the intersections of q***r Asian identity and health equity in medicine. Our first event in the series is the Q***r Asian Voices in Medicine panel, featuring physicians and medical students discussing how their q***r and Asian identities shape their journeys, professional development, and approaches to patient care.

A national needs assessment will be launched to better understand and advocate for q***r Asian pre-medical and medical students. We want to hear from you!

We will also issue a call to q***r Asian physicians to connect q***r Asian pre-medical and medical students with mentorship opportunities.

Finally, we will launch our national “Q***r Asian Stories in Medicine” digital storytelling project, open to submissions from all, highlighting lived experiences throughout the year.

Together, these initiatives aim to empower the next generation of q***r Asian leaders in medicine. While these efforts begin in June in recognition of Pride Month, they will continue throughout the year to support ongoing celebration, visibility, and community-building. We encourage you to participate and engage with these efforts throughout the year.
