One of the collective preoccupations of Sharp & Fine is how imagination makes movement mean something. And, oh man, does fill movement to the brim with imagining! We are all obsessed. Please note the sweetest cheerleader gremlins in the background + a music sneak peek from the early rehearsal recordings has been sharing.

A little behind-the-scenes from a photo shoot with for our Iphigenia show. We can’t wait to see the final images! Thank you to Natalia and our stunning collaborators for being down to clown and so generous with their time, effort, and ideas for this shoot: , , .tv, , , and Charmaine. 💕

We’ve been thinking about playing with this idea again... Back in 2017, we played around with having our composer “conduct” both movement and text in performance. It was fun and challenging and we ended up loving the strange energy and effect it created. Thank you to for putting up with our experiments!

In November, Sharp & Fine had the immense pleasure of creating a show for the beautiful with vignettes of dance and live music paired with specific locations throughout the garden. Here are and moving through the “currents duet” with music by saxophonist Beth Schenck. They are under the Long Bridge, which is covered with vines and surrounded by layers and layers of lush greenery.

Since we have some new folks following us (Hello! We’re so happy you’re here!), we wanted to share a little introduction and an invitation to join our wonderful newsletter readers. 💌 We’ll mostly be talking about the process of making THE IPHIGENIA PROJECT, which premieres in October, plus a few other shows and maybe workshops along the way.

The video clips feature collaborators from our two most recent evening-length shows, A DETECTIVE STORY and IMAGINARY COUNTRY: , , Charmaine Butcher, , , , and (just a glimpse!)

We’re trying to understand how one (or many) might arrive at the point where sacrifice can be demanded, without gods or soothsayers putting a supernatural finger upon the scale. It’s taking us to territory that’s unfamiliar for S&F, but so interesting and discomfiting to explore. This is from a scene we’ve been calling “town hall” and sketching through improvisation, seeing how many layers we can use to add meaning. Some great and unexpected ideas bubbled up from the group, and we’re excited (and nervous) to continue pushing forward to hone in on what might create the inescapable pressure that drives the darkest choices of our story.

Next week, we go back to the studio to continue working on The Iphigenia Project. We’ll be sketching a first draft of the structure so we can figure out how all the shiny bits we’ve been gathering fit into the necessary landmarks of story, image, and feeling.

It’s the second-to-last day of 2025, so if you want to help us start 2026 strong and get through this daunting-thrilling-confusing-hilarious-magical stage of creating a new piece, check out the last slide ⬆️

In the meantime, we’ve got this little dump of recent rehearsal moments with , , , .tv, and Charmaine + a soft launch of the fact that the stunning is joining our cast! More soon.

Wishing everyone rest and rejuvenation today and tomorrow so you can dive into the new year with exactly the fierceness and softness you need. See y’all in 2026! ✨

We’re experimenting with performing more in 2026! And we need your help to bring projects out of the rehearsal studio and into performance. You can help make more S&F performances happen! ✨

This trio is an early exploration of overcoming and being overcome with , .tv, and . We’ve been thinking about heroes, heroism, and capitulation, all in the context of Achilles, one of the most famous heroes of all. We’re also digging our Beethoven at the moment. He brings all the feels!
