Label GMOs San Francisco Group

Label GMOs San Francisco Group This is the San Francisco group of the state-wide campaign to label genetically engineered foods. This is the page for the San Francisco group.

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) may be harmful to our health, our environment, farmers, and the biodiversity of our crops, and most of us eat them every day without even knowing it when we eat processed foods. Check out www.labelgmos.org to learn more about why you should avoid GMOs. Because of the harms of GMOs local groups are mobilizing all over California to work to get a statewide initi

ative on the ballot in 2012. Important: We will be rallying on World Food Day, October 16th, to call for labeling of GMOs. Please save the date!

Real food comes from real seeds, the very basis of our human evolution. Nice reminder from NonGMO Project.

A question we get asked a lot at the Non-GMO Project is “are safe?” Here’s our take:

Most developed nations do not consider GMOs to be safe. In fact, in more than 60 countries around the world, including Australia, Japan, and all of the countries in the European Union, there are significant restrictions or outright bans on the production and sale of GMOs. In the U.S. and Canada, GMOs have been approved based on studies conducted by the same corporations that created them and profit from their sale.

A growing body of evidence connects GMOs with health problems, environmental damage and violation of farmers’ and consumers’ rights. At the Non-GMO Project we hear from people on a daily basis who are deeply concerned about the potential impacts of GMOs and are taking matters into their own hands by choosing to opt out of the experiment.

"Farmers and consumer rights networks in the Philippines have expressed alarm about Canada’s approval. The networks are concerned that a national policy loophole could enable proponents to use Canada’s approval as a "safety stamp" to introduce Golden Rice in the Philippines and start feeding trials including with children and pregnant women.

“We also question why the International Rice Research Institute is seeking safety approval from countries like Canada, Australia, and the US while farmers and consumers in Asia who plant and eat rice as a staple are left in the dark." GM Watch
