The Tortora Brayda Institute is pleased to welcome Louis Schirmer as Communications Director and Eve Wohnig as Fellows Program Coordination Director.

Their appointments strengthen two essential parts of TBI’s mission: sharing ideas that inform responsible innovation and supporting the people who turn those ideas into meaningful contributions.

Louis Schirmer - Communications Director

Already part of TBI’s Fellows community, Louis brings a background in writing, research, and international education. A Kenyon College graduate in English and French, his experience includes English-language teaching at Université Bordeaux Montaigne in France.

Louis will lead TBI’s communications and publications activities, working with our Fellows, Center leads, and partners to bring their insights to wider audiences. His work will connect articles, research publications, webinars, interviews, and digital outreach - making TBI’s expertise more accessible and creating more opportunities for informed dialogue and collaboration.

Eve Wohnig - Fellows Program Coordinator

Eve brings experience in documentary and creative media production, research, and communications, including her work as an Executive Production Assistant at TraZor Productions.

Eve will coordinate the Fellows Program’s day-to-day engagement, supporting onboarding and collaboration across TBI’s Centers and initiatives. Working with Institute leadership, she will help Fellows connect their expertise and interests with purposeful assignments, clear milestones, and opportunities to contribute through research, publications, mentoring, and public discussions.

Together, Louis and Eve will help strengthen the connection between the work our community does and the impact that work can have.

Tortora Brayda Institute is proud to announce the launch of the new TBI Fellows Program and its inaugural Cohort.

The TBI Fellows Program brings together exceptional leaders, practitioners, researchers, and builders who share a common commitment: ensuring AI and Cybersecurity technological adoption by business and integration into the socio-cultural-economic fabric of the modern world leads to positive measurable societal impact. At a time when advanced technologies are reshaping economies, institutions, and communities, TBI believes that progress depends not only on innovation, but on trusted collaboration across government, industry, academia, and civil society.

Selection as a TBI Fellow is both an honor and a responsibility. Each Fellow in this cohort was nominated and selected for their expertise, integrity, collaborative work style, and alignment with TBI’s mission to advance resilience, ethics, trust, and partnership excellence in priority technology domains, including AI, cybersecurity, cloud/data, and responsible innovation.

Through the Fellows Program, this cohort will help power TBI’s work through applied research, program/task-force leadership, thought leadership, policy and standards engagement, public-interest tools, speaker and convening support, and coalition-building. Their work will help translate complex technology challenges into practical guidance, partnership models, and outcomes that strengthen institutions and serve the public good.

The Fellows will also contribute to TBI’s broader ecosystem of centers and initiatives, including programs focused on AI and cybersecurity educations needs, responsible and ethical technology adoption, digital citizen/digital twin concepts, partnership excellence, and cross-sector convening.

We are honored to welcome this new cohort into the TBI community and grateful for their commitment to building a more responsible, resilient, and collaborative technology future.

Online scams are often discussed as a cybersecurity problem.
But behind some scam centres lies something far darker: human trafficking.
In this new Tortora Brayda Institute conversation, Isabelle Patrick speaks with Amie Gosselin from Hagar International about the rise of scam centres where trafficked victims are coerced into running online fraud operations against their will.
The discussion explores how technology can be used not only to detect fraud, but to expose exploitation, protect survivors, and support the work of governments, NGOs, investigators, and responsible technology leaders.
Key themes include:
Digital footprints and data analytics in exposing trafficking networks
Online grooming and the cyber dimensions of modern exploitation
Ethical AI and survivor privacy
The importance of alliances between civil society, government, and the technology sector

Celebrating Our Young Visionaries Winter Intern

With our winter session closed, we want to recognize the exceptional inaugural member of the Young Visionaries Intern Program, Julius Mateo Wohnig, for an outstanding body of work and for the curiosity, discipline, and thoughtfulness he brought to the Tortora Brayda Institute this winter.

During the month of January, our Young Visionaries intern trailblazed in test running our new program and contributed original research and short-form analysis exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence, geopolitics, diplomacy, and governance; demonstrating exactly what this program is designed to foster:
