California is turning one of its biggest challenges into an opportunity for communities across the state. And it needs a leader to help make it happen.

The California Department of Conservation is seeking a FUSE Executive Fellow to design and launch a brand-new $50 million biomass utilization grant program. The work will span wildfire risk reduction, sustainable forest management, low-carbon construction using mass timber, and regenerative agriculture, all with a focus on expanding economic opportunity for rural and tribal communities most impacted by fire.

This is a 2-year fellowship embedded inside state government, building something that doesn't exist yet and shaping how California addresses climate resilience for years to come.

FUSE alum Jometra Hawkins (2021–2022) is currently the executive director of the @[], which screened 355 people and reached 15,000+ in Houston through free skin health screenings. She called fellow FUSE alum Dr. Wesley Myrick (2021–2022) in Atlanta and knew he was the right person to bring this work to Georgia through The Georgia Interfaith Public Policy Center. Now FUSE alum Dr. Tracey Veal (2020–2021) is carrying it to Los Angeles.

Together, they're expanding access to free dermatological screenings for historically marginalized communities across the country.

We're excited to introduce Spring 2026 FUSE Executive Fellow Shelly Termini!

Termini joins the City of Tulsa Gov to address one of the most visible signs of disinvestment in any neighborhood: blighted and vacant properties. Her FUSE project focuses on building a coordinated, data-driven strategy to help the City better identify, track, and rehabilitate these properties with a particular focus on historically underserved communities.

A little over a month into her fellowship, she is meeting with city agencies, community organizations, and residents to understand the current landscape. From fragmented data systems to delayed enforcement processes, she'll map the barriers and design practical solutions, including streamlined legal processes, integrated property data, and funding aligned with affordable housing goals.

Termini brings deep expertise in operating model transformation and process redesign, with a track record of turning complex operational challenges into clear, executable strategies. Her recent work includes saving a major health system $1.2M in inventory and building an IS Supply Chain Operations team from the ground up.

We can't wait to see the impact she creates in Tulsa! Read more about Termini and meet her fellow cohort members on the blog: https://go.fuse.org/3Qi8g1t

To close out , we're spotlighting FUSE Executive Fellow Sandy Eapen, embedded with the City of Austin Government to advance economic mobility across one of the fastest-growing cities in America, working to build systems where every resident, regardless of language, background, or zip code, can access opportunity and thrive across generations.

Eapen reminds us that Asian American and Pacific Islander communities aren't a single uniform group. Their challenges don't always show up in the data, and that invisibility has real consequences for how policies and programs are designed.

As a board member of Asian Family Support Services of Austin, Eapen has seen firsthand how those barriers compound for the communities most in need. That lived proximity shapes how she shows up as a fellow every day:
"Understanding some of [the Asian and immigrant survivors'] struggles has been really meaningful for me, and has helped give me some deeper insight into some of the lived experiences and challenges — and how cities and policies all make an impact."

For the City of Austin, economic mobility isn't just about income. It's about dismantling the structural barriers in housing, healthcare, employment, language access, and transportation that have long made it harder for Asian and immigrant communities to fully participate in city life.

Today, we are spotlighting FUSE Executive Fellow Weijia Xie in honor of . As part of his FUSE Fellowship, Xie is working with the City of Phoenix to help shape a comprehensive fleet modernization roadmap that transitions 8,000+ city vehicles and equipment to zero- and low-emission technologies, setting a national benchmark for municipal sustainability.

For many AAPI professionals in public service, belonging goes beyond an individual experience; it offers the community the opportunity to be heard and play an active role in decision-making. "When you feel that sense of belonging, you naturally show up with more confidence and are more willing to support others. That creates a shared energy — a dynamic where we lean on one another, exchange ideas, and collectively push our projects and communities forward," Xie explains.

Something big is happening in Fresno, and the City needs a leader to help bring it to life!

With a new soccer stadium and high-speed rail station on the horizon, Downtown Fresno and the historic Chinatown neighborhood have a real chance at transformation. The City of Fresno, California, is seeking a FUSE Executive Fellow to help turn that momentum into lasting economic opportunity.

The FUSE Executive Fellow will work to advance stadium construction, attract new commercial and residential investment to the area, and make sure the growth that follows is inclusive and benefits the communities that have called Downtown and Chinatown home for generations.

We’re excited to welcome Spring 2026 FUSE Executive Fellow Elissa Schuler Adair!

Adair is partnering with Fresno County on a project that could reshape how the County invests in community health, building a data-driven framework to measure the real-world impact of public health spending and guide smarter resource allocation.

She'll start by listening: conducting a tour across County agencies, academic partners, and community organizations to understand what's working, what's missing, and where the biggest opportunities lie. From there, she'll design analytical tools and a return-on-investment methodology that helps Fresno County connect every dollar spent to better health outcomes for residents.

Adair's path to this work is anything but conventional. She co-founded the Consumer Reports Health Ratings Center, built a Medicaid feedback platform using AI-assisted analysis, and spent a year as a Fulbright Scholar in Timor-Leste designing the country's national middle school health curriculum. She holds a BA from Princeton and a PhD from Imperial College London and is fluent in Portuguese.

We're thrilled to have her in the FUSE Spring 2026 cohort! Read more about Adair and meet her fellow cohort members on the blog: https://go.fuse.org/3RzyIE4

The FUSE Executive Fellow will work inside DEP's Bureau of Customer Services to gather resident feedback, streamline processes, build new tools, and lead projects that make services more equitable and accessible for everyone.

It's a one-year embedded role with a real chance to transform one of the city's most essential agencies from the inside.

We're thrilled to introduce Spring 2026 FUSE Executive Fellow Atisa Sioshansi!

Sioshansi is partnering with Los Angeles County to take on a challenge close to home for many of us: ensuring our beloved beaches remain open, affordable, and welcoming for every resident, especially BIPOC communities and people with disabilities.

She'll kick off her fellowship with a listening tour across County agencies, frontline staff, and community members to understand the real barriers to beach access and funding. From there, she'll help redesign fee structures and revenue models that generate the funding needed to keep beaches running without pricing anyone out.

Sioshansi brings 20+ years of experience leading complex organizational transformations, most recently as an Executive Search Principal at Korn Ferry. She's a proud "quadruple" Wolverine with an MBA, MPH, and MS/BS in Chemical Engineering, all from the University of Michigan.

We're so glad to have her in the FUSE Spring 2026 cohort. Read more about Sioshansi and meet her fellow cohort members on the blog: https://go.fuse.org/438PyMB
