The Richmond Neighborhood Center is a drop-off location for Cross Cultural Family Center’s No Child Left Cold coat drive, and you can help a child stay warm this winter.

The drive will provide a warm jacket to every child in Cross Cultural Family Center’s neighborhood child care centers. For many families, a quality winter coat is a real expense, and no child should spend cold mornings shivering on the way to school or play.

Collection dates: October 5 through November 5, 2026
Goal: 300 to 500 jackets by November 5

How you can help:

Donate a jacket. Cross Cultural Family Center is collecting new or gently used children’s jackets in sizes for infants (4 months) through age 12. Please make sure they’re clean and in good condition. You can drop them off at The Richmond Neighborhood Center, 741 30th Avenue, San Francisco.

This winter, Cross Cultural Family Center is asking for your help to make sure warmth reaches every child, and The Richmond Neighborhood Center is proud to support their No Child Left Cold coat drive as a drop-off location.

Lion dancers, live performances, family activities, mooncakes, and a full block of local vendors and community organizations, wrapping at 3 PM between 8th and 11th Avenue.

Great news: SFUSD has paused the RFP for 741 30th Avenue!

Thank you to every family, senior, young person, neighbor, volunteer, partner, educator, and community member who emailed, called, shared our posts, told your story, or stood with us. Your voices made a difference.

This pause is an important step, and it gives us the opportunity we have been asking for: a meaningful community process before decisions are made about the future of 741.

But our work is not finished.

For more than four decades, The Richmond Neighborhood Center has been a place where our community comes together. Whatever comes next must protect the youth programs, family supports, food security services, senior services, and community connections that already call this place home.

The Richmond Neighborhood Center has called 741 30th Avenue home for 46 years. We recently learned that SFUSD is moving forward with a Request for Proposals for developers at this property. If it moves ahead as proposed, The Richmond Neighborhood Center and the programs operating here could be displaced.
Thousands of children, families, volunteers, and neighbors are connected to what happens at 741. Food assistance. Family support. Youth programs. Community events.

46 years ago, Richmond District neighbors came together to protect this property for community use. Because of them, generations of San Franciscans have benefited from what was built here. Now our community is being called on again.

The Richmond Neighborhood Center was founded in 1980 because a group of neighbors refused to let a community resource disappear. They came together to preserve the former Lucinda Weeks School property at 741 30th Avenue for community use. Residents organized, formed a nonprofit, and secured a long-term lease from SFUSD. That’s how the Richmond Neighborhood Center began.
Generations later, it is still a place where neighbors come together. Young people find opportunities here. Families connect to resources through our Family Resource Center. Older adults and neighbors experiencing food insecurity access the food pantry four days a week.

Today, our community is being called upon again. As SFUSD considers the future of this property, we are asking the Board of Education to preserve 741 30th Avenue for community-serving use and work with The Richmond Neighborhood Center toward a long-term solution.

This week, we will share the history of The Richmond Neighborhood Center, the people and programs that depend on it, and how you can stand with us at the September 8 Board of Education meeting.

Our community protected this place before. Now it's our turn. Protect Youth. Protect Families. Protect Communities. Protect Our Neighborhood Center!

Thank you to Pacific Gas and Electric Company for a day that meant a lot to The Richmond Neighborhood Center.

Thank you for your sponsorship and for staying to work alongside our staff. Volunteers sorted produce and packed groceries for our Home Delivered Groceries program. Every box of apples and watermelons your crew moved will end up with a member of our community through our food pantry and Home Delivered Grocery deliveries.

Back-to-school week is here in San Francisco. Families gathered outside schools before the doors opened, teachers laid out supplies for the morning, and our teams settled in for a new year.

Each year, our school-based enrichment programs serve more than 3,000 students, and our Youth Workforce Development programs support over 160 high schoolers across 12 school sites.

The first day back looks different at every school. What stays consistent is our presence in classrooms and in the community, alongside the students and families we work with.
