When vastly different organizations come together for a common purpose, great things can happen. The Commandery of St. Francis, the local unit of a 900-year-old chivalric Order, and Project Healing Waters (PHW) Programs in Martinez and San Francisco share a passion for helping heal the physical and psychological wounds that many veterans experience during and after their service to our country.
PHW and the Commandery have joined forces to offer disabled veterans a lifeline to healing. With fly fishing as the vehicle, financial support from the Commandery, and volunteers from Diablo Valley Fly Fishing Club and Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club, Project Healing Waters has been able to continuously expand its services to veterans in the Bay Area. The synergy between these organizations has delivered life-saving opportunities for vets to heal themselves and each other while learning to fly fish on waters near and far.
This work has transformed the lives of scores of veterans and has prompted both PHW and the Commandery to look for ways to help even more veterans in their healing journeys.

PHW SF couldn’t accomplish our mission of supporting Veterans in need through a dedicated, developed curriculum of fly fishing, fly casting, fly tying without the incredible help of the Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club. We presented Libby Wolfensperger, president with a certificate of appreciation to recognize the help she and the club have provided us since we started our program. Thank you!🙏
