The Freedom Story

We prevent child exploitation in Thailand through educational scholarships and additional resources for children at risk.

The Freedom Story was born from a documentary film called The SOLD Project. When our founder Rachel Sparks learned about child s*xual exploitation in Thailand, she decided to expose it through the power of film. After interviewing dozens of s*x workers, common themes became apparent: poverty, a lack of education, and a lack of options. Rachel responded by providing a scholarship to an at-risk stud

ent, and The Freedom Story was born. Our scholarships and resources empower at-risk Thai students to stay in school, pursue their dreams, and break the cycle of poverty. Our efforts in the US are centered around telling dignifying stories that encourage people to become a part of changing our world for the better.

Partnering across sectors, creates a shield around our community’s children and youth.

When people gain up-to-date knowledge, aquire self-protection skills and shares those skills throughout their spheres of influence—society grows stronger from within.

At The Freedom Story, our communal sharing starts with knowledge, moves into training, and spreads through building leaders who will continue the cycle of safety.

Last month we officially signed a contract with Chiang Rai Rajabhat University’s Faculty of Education to work together to prevent human trafficking, safeguard against online exploitation and establish a student volunteer network.

Last year, we trained 50 education majors to develop trafficking prevention curriculum as the start of this growing partnership. These future educators are already making schools, students and communities safer!

Partnership is the key to sustainable and effective prevention.

Congratulations graduates 🥳

In Thailand, 800,000 students drop out of school each year. Graduation is an incredible milestone for any student, and even more for the scholarship students at The Freedom Story.

90% of our students—the most vulnerable children in Northern Thailand—graduate from high school!

“The world may not see your value, but you should see your value. I believe we’ll see each of you encourage the next generation.”

Cat, our first scholarship student, spoke at this year’s graduation ceremony.

When we met Cat as a fourth-grader, her mom said she’d be lucky to support Cat through the ninth grade.

But after receiving a scholarship through The Freedom Chapter, Cat accomplished more than her younger self would have imagined. She’s now a teacher pursuing a master’s degree in English education.

This spring, she addressed 61 new graduates (including elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as vocational school and university students) to show them that they, too, can achieve their dreams.

It was a full-circle moment that shows how generational cycles of exploitation are being replaced with cycles of freedom.

Graduation is a major milestone, not only for our students but also for their parents!

Only 4 percent of our student’s guardians have graduated from high school, but 90 percent of our students graduate!

Together, we are breaking generational cycles and transforming vulnerability into possibility!

We truly believe that our shared responsibility is to love and protect children ✨

We recently held a training for teachers from 22 schools in Chiang Rai.

Our goals were simple:

1. Teach teachers to spot and prevent online dangers and risk factors that lead to child trafficking.

2. Train teachers in our child development course, “Myself, My Dream and My Future,” to equip children.

The course helps children build inner strength by developing skills in self-reflection, goal-setting, money management, and exercising their rights.

Every lesson includes teaching about online dangers and human trafficking so children can defend themselves and their peers against human trafficking and exploitation.

Only together can we build a better world for our children, and our children’s children 💙

When local leaders are equipped to spot danger, recognize risk, and intervene early, children are safer.

In 2025, our Prevention Partners made incredible strides by using our proven prevention model to create safe zones in their own communities. For the first time, five church partners met both the social and physical needs of their neighborhoods through the power of prevention.

Their journey is a testament to what’s possible when communities come together to protect children.
