🚨 Urgent: only a few days left to act on FinCEN whistleblower rules

The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) is finalizing rules to implement the Anti-Money Laundering Whistleblower Improvement Act (AML WIA) and the current draft raises serious concerns about whether key whistleblower protections will be preserved.

If left unchanged, the proposed rules could lead to:
- Strict, non-statutory filing requirements that will disqualify countless whistleblowers who Congress intended to be eligible for awards,

- A failure to acknowledge and protect international whistleblowers, who provide the U.S. with critical whistleblower tips at great risk to their lives, and

- Weakened confidentiality requirements, which are inconsistent with the statutory requirements and put whistleblowers at risk

🗓 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝘂𝗲 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 — 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁.

The Signals Network is proud to have signed a letter led by the National Whistleblower Center calling on FinCEN to fix these issues so the AML WIA actually lives up to its purpose: stronger whistleblower protections, better enforcement and more effective action against financial networks that enable crime.

👉 ⚖️ An update in Rui Pinto's case, whose information in the "Football Leaks" and "Luanda Leaks" led to investigations by authorities in multiple countries. “This is a decision that honors the Portuguese justice system," said Luísa Teixeira da Mota, one of Rui's defense attorneys. "It is a courageous ruling that clearly recognizes the importance of the European Convention on Human Rights as binding international law within Portugal. At the same time, it reinforces that the Portuguese Constitution is not merely a historical document, but a living instrument with real and concrete application in the protection of fundamental rights.”

📢 There is a moment when a number stops being a statistic and starts being a signal.

For us at The Signals Network, that moment came when we looked at our first quarter numbers for 2026. 𝗜𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀, 𝟮𝟮𝟬 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽. That is 𝟮𝟭𝟵% 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 than the same period last year. And 𝟳𝟴𝟬% 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 than the first quarter of 2024.

Nearly 9 times more people in two years.

That is not a trend. That is a wake up call. 🔔
