National Cancer Survivor Month is often seen as a celebration of milestones, but for many people impacted by cancer, survivorship is also about learning how to live alongside uncertainty, grief, growth, and possibility.

Survivorship is not defined by statistics, timelines, or a single identity. It’s about reconnecting with yourself, discovering what still feels possible, and finding people who remind you that life can continue beyond cancer.

This reflection from AFC alumni, Peter, speaks to the power of seeing survivorship differently—not as standing still in fear of what comes next, but choosing to embrace life with both hands.

In the heart of Kibera, the weight of a cancer diagnosis is often carried in silence. Through Mizizi, 79 people gained a safe space and practical tools to navigate the emotional complexities of their experience.

Take a behind-the-scenes look at the care and preparation it takes to transform a local venue into a welcoming environment for connection, skill-building, and emotional healing.

To the incredible donors who supported our Mizizi Rising campaign last year: thank you so much. You are the reason we can bring these transformative workshops to the communities that need them most.

There is something powerful about being in a space where you don’t have to translate your experience for others.

During A Fresh Chapter’s 10-week peer-facilitated Ignite Experience, people impacted by cancer come together to make sense of what they’ve been through, reconnect with themselves, and rebuild a sense of direction.

It’s not about having it all figured out. It’s about having the tools and space to begin again—with people who “get it.”

Applications are open until May 31, 2026. Apply today: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeXhhRnD76FdvtsEskZlbkRjg7l6xSRyPZC9yaY2Xy1_CtsLw/viewform

Cancer brings up a lot—but how do we begin to navigate these emotions?

Making Room for Mixed Emotions is a 60-minute workshop designed to help you reflect and begin to make sense of what you’re experiencing. Through simple prompts and interactive exercises, you’ll explore two of our tools: Holding Space and Living in Contradiction.

If you’re interested in our 10-week Ignite program, this workshop could be a great peek into what two of our ten Ignite tools are like.

In recognition of , we’re honored to spotlight Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN)–a partner with a shared commitment to the psychosocial needs in cancer care.

Their 2026 report, The New Faces of Bladder Cancer, highlights both progress in care and the gaps that still exist. With insights from over 1,100 patients, we are reminded how important it is for people to feel seen, informed, and supported through their experience. BCAN’s work ensures these lived experiences help shape more connection and compassion for all.
