Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra and Chorus

Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra and Chorus Keeping classical music accessible in the Bay Area and beyond!

The GGSOC is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, founded by conductor and educator Urs Leonhardt Steiner. The Golden Gate Symphony has provided more than 20 years of high quality musical performances and dynamic music education programs to communities in San Francisco and abroad. These highly successful programs have earned the organization a national and international reputation with current

programs in California, Central America and Europe. A key vision of Maestro Steiner is to increase audience development and provide access to classical music at the community level. The GGS achieves this through implementing music programs through an innovative ensemble orchestra and choral group, providing works ranging from classical to contemporary compositions. The orchestra has recorded over a dozen CDs, produced film scores and has performed throughout the United States, Europe and Central America. Collaborations and partnerships include the San Francisco Community Music Center, San Francisco Choral Society, The Oaxaca Symphony Orchestra, the Orquestra Nacional de Nicaragua, the Golden Gate Opera and most recently Musik Theater Chur, Switzerland.

35 years of world-class choral tradition joins our stage. The Golden Gate Boys Choir & Bellringers brings the proud legacy of East Bay Catholic boy choir training to an evening featuring Vivaldi’s Gloria and Orff’s Carmina Burana.

Rooted in the rich tradition of boy choir performance, GGBC offers boys extensive training in vocal technique, music theory, and choral repertoire — showcased on local, national, and international stages. As proud members of the American Federation of Pueri Cantores, the Student Choral Organization of the Catholic Church, they carry a mission that goes far beyond performance.

“As a retired physics Ph.D. with no formal music training, I’ve found a fulfilling second career as a performing musician. Playing oboe and English horn with GGSOC allows me to take part in great choral masterworks and a wide range of classical repertoire. The friendships and strong sense of collegiality in the orchestra are equally rewarding.”

Behind every performance is a story like his—of courage, curiosity, and finding belonging through music. Your support helps make these stories possible, bringing musicians together and keeping powerful music alive for our community.
