“The first time I heard a tape of Mumia’s radio broadcasts, it was the first time I fully understood why the government was so intent on putting him to death.”

Prison Radio is a project of The Redwood Justice Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the defense of the environment and of civil and human rights secured by law. Established by Judi Bari in 1994, the foundation embraces a wide array of environmental and social justice projects including:

Purple Berets, a women's rights organization dedicated to obtaining equal justice for women. Redwood Summer Justice Project, which defends the rights of environmental activists. Women's Justice Center which advocates for Latina victims of violence against women in Sonoma County, California. Get Out Of The Military, a small group of dedicated military law counselors working with soldiers who want a discharge and need support through that process. The group also works to decrease suicides and sexual assault and harassment within the military. Douglas once reminded a group of young lawyers: "As nightfall does not come all once, neither does oppression. In both instances there is a twilight when everything remains seemingly unchanged. And it is in such twilight that we all must be most aware of change in the air, however slight, lest we become unwitting victims of darkness."

BREAKING UPDATE: Virginia DOC - PrisonRadio correspondent David Annarelli reports live from Haynesville prison. Key takeaways:

✅ Allegations emerging from the tennis ball incident. ❌ DOC using weather & yard restrictions as collective punishment (contradicting policy!). ❌ Serious errors harming inmate health (chemo missed). 🧠 DOC targeting journalists like Don Lemon & punishing whistleblowers.

This isn't just bureaucracy; it's abuse. Click the link in bio to listen to the full commentary and support independent journalism exposing these critical issues. Stand with the prisoners and their families. Donate at Prison Radio to keep voices like David's on air.

"We must go to the People and organize them. For it is only the People who are properly motivated and organized that can bring change. Build the Movement!"
-Mumia Abu-Jamal, lead correspondent at Prison Radio

Just visited Alice Lynd in Ohio. At 95. She is warm, wonderful, a mentor. A Friend. An inspiration. I have a whole shelf dedicated to Alice and Staughton's work. I called my law degree and emerging legal career "The Alice Project" I knew I could do it, after she went to law school in her mid 50's and changed the world.

Todays correspondent spotlight focuses on Bryant Arroyo

Bryant Arroyo is serving life without parole for a crime he didn’t commit. An environmentalist, disability rights advocate, and whistleblower, Arroyo has spent his time organizing against toxic development, teaching fellow prisoners, and demanding healthcare and dignity. Throughout his 31 years of incarceration, Arroyo has remained an unwavering voice for freedom of speech, despite the severe repression he continues to face.
