Black Women Lawyers Association of Northern California BWLNC provides professional, educational, social, and moral support for Black women judges, lawyers and law students in Northern California.

From our founding in 1979, the Black Women Lawyers Association of Northern California has been and continues to be very special and very unique. Our events range from in-depth roundtable discussions with state and federal judges on best practices and ethical obligations to evening spa retreats with frank and open discussions unique to the needs and experiences of black women attorneys. Our members

hip has long been comprised of many senior level executives and in-house attorneys, large law firm partners and associates, solo practitioners, government attorneys and judges, and law students from some of the best institutions in the country. No other bar association has such an amazing membership. And yet, we are so much more than just a bar association. We are a SISTERHOOD!

This 90-minute training introduces foundational California estate planning principles for attorneys, with practical guidance on wills, revocable living trusts, durable powers of attorney, advance health care directives, and disposition of remains. Participants will explore capacity, undue influence, titling, and trust funding basics, along with common planning scenarios and design choices. The program emphasizes cultural competency and trauma-informed approaches when working with HIV+ and LGBTQ+ clients, including chosen family dynamics. It also addresses common pitfalls, ethics and risk management concerns, and provides a brief overview of probate, conservatorship, and trust administration in California.
