On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the Maintenance Unit at Recology San Mateo County represented by Teamsters Local 350, overwhelmingly voted to ratify a new five-year contract with the waste hauling company.
The new contract delivers several improved provisions for workers such as strengthened wages, increase in tool allowance, technology language and pension benefits. The new benefits will be retroactively applied for their work since January 1, 2026.
“The overwhelming ratification of the contract speaks to the work and unity of the members at the bargaining table,” said Robert Sandoval, Teamsters Local 350 Secretary-Treasurer. “From day one bargaining committee members knew what their coworkers demanded in a new contract and as a result were able to negotiate the largest increases in both wages and pension this unit has ever seen.”
The maintenance unit at Recology San Mateo includes Mechanics, Welders, Preventative Maintenance Technicians, and Shop Laborers. The unit ensures hundreds of vehicles and equipment are running properly and safely for the workers operating the vehicles and machines that pick-up and process waste and recycling across San Mateo County.
“Every time we sit down at the bargaining table, we know with the Teamsters on our side workers will win,” said Trini Tinoco, the units shop steward and one of the bargaining committee members, alongside Sean Marshall. “We had strong expectations, and Local 350 secured a strong contract that includes retro pay into our wages and pension back to the beginning of the year. The ask was simple: pay us what we deserve. These trucks don’t run themselves, and we make sure everyday operations run smoothly for the company.”
Teamsters Local 350, an affiliate of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters was chartered on October 8, 1936, representing members in the Solid Waste & Recycling Industry, Linen Industry and Public Sector in San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and San Benito Counties.
