𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘏𝘢𝘭𝘵 𝘖𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘧 𝘕𝘦𝘨𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘭.
(SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.) — 105 workers at South San Francisco Scavenger Company, represented by Teamsters Local 350, have unanimously authorized a strike if negotiations continue to be met with the waste hauling company bringing offers to the table that fail to meet industry standards of wages and benefits of the region.
South San Francisco District 4 Councilmember, James Coleman said, “These workers provide services essential to our businesses, residents, schools, and San Francisco International Airport. I urge South San Francisco Scavengers to bargain in good faith and reach a fair agreement. Every worker who delivers vital services for our city, whether internally or externally, deserves to be treated with respect.”
The unit is made up of waste hauling drivers, equipment operators, sorters and mechanics providing services for South San Francisco, Brisbane, Millbrae and the San Francisco International Airport, the gateway that welcomes visitors to the region.
“We do not take strike authorizations lightly and a unanimous vote sends a message loud and clear to South San Francisco Scavengers, the clock is ticking, meet the area standards or we will keep the trucks parked and halt operations,” said Robert Sandoval, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 350. “Nothing moves without Teamsters. The company has an opportunity to do the right thing or choose the alternative and allow trash to be piling up, creating a health and safety hazard in our communities and at SFO.”
The next bargaining session is scheduled for September 21, 2026.
Teamsters Local 350, an affiliate of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters was chartered on October 8, 1936, represents members in the Solid Waste & Recycling Industry, Linen Industry and Public Sector in San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and San Benito Counties.
