✨ Rachmaninoff: “Bogoroditse Devo” (Rejoice, O Virgin Mary)

A radiant moment of stillness within the All-Night Vigil, this movement glows with serene devotion.

Rachmaninoff transforms the ancient words of the Archangel’s greeting into a gentle surge of light — the voices rising and falling like breath itself, warm and pure.

In this brief prayer, everything sacred and human meets: awe before the divine, tenderness before the Mother of God, and the quiet joy of faith itself.

A single choral whisper becomes an offering — “Rejoice, O Virgin, full of grace…”

Come and hear “Bogoroditse Devo” and the rest of Rachmaninoff’s ‘All-Night Vigil’ (‘Vespers’) at our upcoming concerts in just TWO weeks:

The music softens to a glow. A gentle, gladsome light shines in the gathering dusk — neither of day nor night, but something eternal.
Here, Rachmaninoff gives voice to stillness itself. The harmonies unfold like the slow lighting of candles, one by one, until the glory of the Immortal One is fully revealed.
It’s a prayer without urgency — only peace, praise, and light.
Come and hear “Svete Tikhij” (O Gladsome Light) and the rest of Rachmaninoff’s ‘All-Night Vigil’ (‘Vespers’) at our upcoming concerts:

✨ Sacred Love / Любовь Святая ✨
-In Georgy Sviridov’s choral masterpiece Sacred Love (Любовь Святая), we hear love as devotion. Love as a divine force. Love as something pursued, persecuted, and yet eternal.
-Set to ancient Russian words, the music carries the weight of centuries: “O sacred love, from the beginning art thou persecuted, watered with blood.”
-Sung in austere harmonies and quiet intensity, Sviridov gives voice to a longing that transcends the personal. It’s the soul calling out — not for comfort, but for meaning. 🕯

We’ll be singing this beautiful song at our upcoming concerts. Come and listen!

Saturday, 14 June at 7:00pm: Songs of the Soul (Los Altos)
Sunday, 15 June at 3:30pm: Songs of the Soul (San Francisco)

🌍 “While the Earth is still spinning…
A quiet voice. A trembling guitar. And a prayer that speaks for all of us.

Bulat Okudzhava’s “Molitva” (“The Prayer of François Villon”) is not just a song — it’s a whispered plea, offered on behalf of the whole, fragile world.

It asks not for triumph, but for mercy:
🧠 wisdom for the thoughtful,
🐎 courage for the fearful,..and a moment of grace for the rest of us.

Okudzhava gives voice to the deep human longing for justice, gentleness, and something sacred — even if we’re not quite sure what that is.
📿 “Give everyone just a little… and don’t forget about me.”

May we all carry this prayer in our hearts — especially now.

We’ll be PREMIERING a choral arrangement of this beautiful song at our upcoming concerts. Come and listen!

Saturday, 14 June at 7:00pm: Songs of the Soul (Los Altos)
Sunday, 15 June at 3:30pm: Songs of the Soul (San Francisco)
